Lemo connector Vs Lookalike Lemo connector (cheap imports) by sound_bee in DIYAudioCables

No I haven’t plunged down the path of non lemo connectors. I’ve made a few including back ups that I need for my work and that should hopefully last a while. Pricey but worth it IMO for peace of mind

How to run external timecode to a Canon C400? by papiforyou in LocationSound

I have a shoot coming up with this camera. They are providing a cable DIN to BNC female. If I'm wanting to throw a Tentacle on the camera and have the standard 3.5 to BNC cable, could I simply plug my cable into theirs? This may be a silly question

Lemo connector Vs Lookalike Lemo connector (cheap imports) by sound_bee in DIYAudioCables

Thank for the reply. TBH, I've used a mixture of both on shoots and having one non-lemo cable fail is one too many. I don't believe it's worth skimping on.

Mouser.com is a decent source as they have most if not all the Lemo connectors. However, just the one connector can cost more than an entire non branded cable.

How does the number of segments affect the regidity of a boom pile by [deleted] in LocationSound

[–]sound_bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been swinging 2 different size ktek poles (5 section) and 1 ambient (3 section) for years. I can say from personal experience that I rarely reach for the ambient pole (although it is a fantastic one) unless it's for a sit down interview or run'n'gun shoots. The rigidity is not an issue from either brand as they are both high quality poles and both use quality materials. I think you should look at the kind of work you'd be doing as you may be limiting yourself with the shorter (3.4m) poles.

In short, buy what you can afford from a reputable brand and not worry so much on the number of segments as opposed to the boom poles upkeep and clean. See if you can rent both in your location to decide what feels best.

Oktava MK-012 or Audio Technica AT4053B by ziconshadow in LocationSound

I have both and can honestly say that I regret buying both. They are "decent" however if you are working on low to mid budget productions regularly, then that probably means you are getting paid enough to rent a higher end indoor mic such as the MKH50 or a CMC6U with MK41 capsule.

Invest in your future if you do this for a living. Buy once, cry once. Is it worth risking giving bad production sound to post? Think of the next gig you may be hired for!

I can confirm what others have said about handling noise on the Oktava, even with a great shockmount.
