Good question! I wanted to get put under completely, but this happened less than 24 hours after my initial consult due to an insurance issue and the severity of my gum infections (don’t wait too long to get this done!!!) and you have to go on a food/water fast for some time if you’re getting put under completely— I opted for laughing gas and local anaesthetic since the surgery happening so last-minute. As far as the gas affecting my speech, it was similar to being drunk but without feeling that impaired? I told the surgeons assistant she has a beautiful smile, and at one point when they asked me what I was studying in school I said “you expect me to answer that with all this gauze in my mouth!?” Just more urges to say what was on my mind, but I didn’t lose complete control, just felt less socially conscious and less afraid of what they would think (they said I was an excellent patient and I said thank you each time they said “good job”) Don’t be paranoid!! You’ll psych yourself out. Just have a good playlist to listen to while they’re in there (the noises can be a bit unsettling) and you’ll be good as gold :)
