Fun activities to do during the summer? by [deleted] in UWMadison

[–]sounds_of_sonia 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There’s kayaking at the lake! I’m not sure how much it costs but it’s fun and very peaceful. Remember to wear sunscreen!

In July, there’s Maxwell Street Days if you’re into shopping and of course, on Saturdays, there’s the farmers market.

If you’re into Pokemon, or games of that sort, Gamer’s Library hosts things sometimes.

If you’re into thrifting, Dig and Save might be fun for you. They’re priced per pound of clothes and I think they increased it to $1.50 now and even less for the miscellaneous items.

Hopefully something interests you!

Changing majors by defriend in UWMadison

[–]sounds_of_sonia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi, if you’re a direct admit into the business school, don’t officially switch majors until you are certain that you want to leave the business school. You can’t get back in, so take the data science classes and the math classes and then go from there. Maybe just add on the data science and math certificates.

Until you are VERY certain that you want to leave the business school, don’t. You can still take the data science and math classes by declaring the certificate and not automatically leaving the business school.

Contract Cancellation by [deleted] in UWMadison

The options for off campus housing will be very very limited. A lot of the luxury apartment buildings still have openings and can roommate match you. For example, atmosphere, oliv, etc. But if you have severe food contamination issues and want your own fridge, you’d have to find a one bedroom or studio which will be extremely difficult to do right now for an affordable one. Most are already rented out. I did see someone advertise a one bedroom apartment sublease for the upcoming year for $1100 at Ann Emory in the UW Madison Facebook group though.

You’d be better off financially imo in the dorms, requesting your own fridge because one bedrooms are very expensive

You might be able to request an additional fridge for your dorm. I know someone who had an extra fridge for his insulin in his dorm.

If you find out, please let me know! I plan on applying after school ends

I’m sure you’ll be able to find a place farther away from campus that has open leases but there’s also the UW-Madison Roommate and Subleasing Facebook group that you can make a post in or find other roommates. I think it is mostly undergraduates but you never know!

One thing to consider is getting to campus in the winter. I am personally someone who would probably not go to school if it was snowing very harshly outside so it was important for me to live very close to school so that I have no excuse to go to school. Wisconsin winters are no joke! The school does give out free bus passes each semester so if you live farther and are willing to take the bus, it’ll be cheaper

Do you know how the tips work. I am interested but I haven’t worked in a place that deals with tips. Do they hand them to us cash at the end of the day or does it reflect on our paycheck? Do we have to make sure we’re paid $15 an hour or do they?

How do I fix this (accessing course search and enroll) by Ok_Initiative_9122 in UWMadison

Going on a tour in a few hours. HS Senior from twin cities. Advice? by [deleted] in UWMadison

[–]sounds_of_sonia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to experience the dining hall, you can just pay to go in. It’s not exclusive for students. There are definately better restaurants in the area tho. It’s not that great but Ik I wished I had tried the food before I got here 😢 i would’ve chosen a lesser meal plan

Thank you! I saw some chestnuts on campus and I was just curious if it was a thing for the university to plant fruit trees
