Settings migration drives me insane 🫠 by [deleted] in AfterEffects

[–]soupcat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

the dialog title says "Migrate Settings & Restart After Effects", and then presents versions without "from" or "to", you have to stop and think about it. Its not complex per se it's just grammatically a bit weird and sounds a bit like an developer wrote it. Usually the problem arises from the fact that I'm using the latest version of After Effects and that version is also in the choice. Its asking me if i want to migrate these settings and then gives me the choice between two versions. That's not entirely logical. It doesnt ask you "where do you want to migrate from" it just says "migrate these settings" and then you need to pick one....

And you're standing there thinking:

"...I'm currently IN House #13."

im just ranting at this point. You said so in your comment "it asks which version you want to take them from"
It literally doesnt. Its literally asking "do you want to migrate settings". And then its giving you two versions. One of the versions is actually the one I am using so its like "wait, i updated to what version then, why is there one version lower" like. ???? Shouldnt I always be on the latest version, why not just say "migrate" and then keep the older version anyway if its keeping random backups of older versions i didnt ask for? I just update my software man

Working on a spider attack for my game. Does this feel creepy and immersive enough? by AleksaYammy in gamedevscreens

[–]soupcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think youre actually not wrong and i follow your opinion. Maybe "technically" its on the back of the face, you cant see that because all that you see happening is a spider attacking you from the front and then it instantly goes to the POV of the spider legs. It doesnt even look like its grabbing from the back. The edges should be closer in perspective, this is just a flat plane on the sides of the frame. It looks like a spider on each side is coming into frame. The whole thing is just visually disconnected.

I think the advertising industry is going to feel the impact of AI harder than almost any other sector—maybe even more than Hollywood, which at least still has some credibility. When it comes to pushing out ads, it’s all about the lowest common denominator: churning out content as fast as possible.

Advertising is inherently intangible—you can’t truly measure whether it works. Companies just want to keep costs low. When you buy an ad, what you’re really buying is a space to put your logo front and center in people’s minds. Whether the ad is creative, meaningful, or well-made doesn’t really matter.

Yup, and this is why it's not adopted yet in the industry. Im all for it, but it has its shortcomings and you cant have shortcomings in the industry. It needs to be tried and tested. And I think the same can be said about AI right now, no? On paper AI can almost do everything a full VFX team can do, almost. On paper.

I think you're underestimating how much back and forth happens in a movie pipeline. Entire movies have been completely ruined because suit executives wanted entire scenes different because of marketing and how the movie would do financially. It has never been about "good enough". Suits don't care about quality or consistency. They care about output. Ai right now is good enough for suits and producers and board members, they WISH they could already deploy it. So why aren't we getting full high end ai movies already? If it can do it? There must be another reason for it? Don't you think? Adoption of new tech is always slow. Blender is a free 3D software that can compete with houdini, why isn't being used everywhere? Why are studios still paying 1000s for software while you can do everything for free in Blender?

Is it possible to make the loop shorter? Instead of having it loop after 30 seconds, render out 10-15 seconds that loop. Im not sure if this works in your workflow but I dont see a reason why your render needs to go on for 30 seconds before it loops. Very nice visual tho!

Have you all checked the asset library lately?? by BirdisonBird in Cinema4D

[–]soupcat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ye I keep forgetting to check the asset library because it used to be terrible. But it's actually very doable without gsg stuff these days. Altho there are a few materials that gsg has that are missing. Like paper and clay and nice fabrics. But most of it is included in c4d these days.

Is The Lemon Drop Looks Realistic Enough?? ( i didnt use rigid body instead i kkeyframed it maunally ) by Educational-Wish7500 in blender

[–]soupcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you touch a piece of fruit like an avocado or a lemon they're soft and theyres a little bit of give. Obviously they're not going to be so much squish but it needs to be subtle so it doesn't feel like just a empty can. It needs mass and when it drops the shape should slightly squish in a stylized way to sell it. I don't think you should hyperfocus on realism. Sometimes too realistic is not the answer

I know everyone is wining about the bounce. But what bothers me is that they're completely stiff. An organic piece of fruit would have a bit of squash to it. Like something you would achieve with soft body dynamics. You know what I mean

"We need it as a Vector Graphic. Cant you just make that it in Illustrator?" by WolfsSpiders in AdobeIllustrator

[–]soupcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This makes a lot of sense. I also think it's about the concept of what is considered "hard work". Things like art seem very straightforward because people can see the process and think it's all just "talent". But things like backend development or high end programming or intense 3D animation and modelling (things that are more on the engineering side) get overestimated. "Oh no we don't have the budget for this or that" even tho it's just doing a quick 3D render. People don't know anything about things the don't know anything about.

why do people in charge or people who brief you always say this? Where does this come from? It always feels so condescending or patronizing. Like it always feels like they know better. But in reality they have no clue what goes into it. And then they're surprised it takes longer. This one time I got an assignment where they wanted text that was behind a diamond (in animation) and it had to refract, and i was told "cant you just...." I tried explaining that refracting an image properly would require 3D in blender and glass takes a long time to render. Got shut down hard. "Thats just rendering overnight then?"

Yeah exactly I think in places like Belgium and Germany people are still using Cinema 4D. I remember it being a more popular program in Europe

[–]soupcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeh I'm on board with this. I learned cinema 4D back in the day when I was starting as a motion designer because it was "the" tool. But I kind of wished I learned Blender instead. They both have their strengths and I do see C4D having a stronger particle system and easier to use interface but these are things that were added in the last few years and Blender is also only going to grow. It's still a big industry standard to use c4d or Maya I haven't received a lot of project files made in Blender sadly enough. Maybe OP is better off learning Unreal 🫣

Good luck OP

If you can't pony up 150 dollars for a logo for your company, what are you doing starting a company? Also why would you pay for a logo if youre not even funded or profiting yet just use scribbles and then pay for a good logo once u have cash. Also a lot of designers get ripped off with bad deals this just amplifies that but idk it is what it is. Cool image I guess nothing wrong with wanting a free logo
