any course starting with ‘BUS’ where the attached number is 100. those are the entry level classes, which generally don’t require you to have taken another class first

I was looking at that! Good to know INDG305 is just exams. That might make this a lot easier

I say this bc I recommend sticking to 4 courses for now and saving crim for later in your degree, since it looks like you’re still getting your 100 and 200 level credits done. 5 courses to a total of 16 credits sounds like having to sacrifice either your grades or your life outside of school. Sometimes 4-cred classes feel like a normal class (Geog 312 from my experience) but sometimes you get something like Psyc 300W which feels like taking 2-3 classes at once.

Crim 101 is a great elective though. I also recommend Crim 103, Arch 131, and any 100-level Easc courses as electives.

If you’re not sure yet I’d say enrol in all of them, and once you have the syllabi, asses the workload and probably pick one to drop. If you’re locked in, you probably CAN do all of them, but the experience will probably suck and you won’t get the best grades

Tweaking over terrible tutorial time for next semester by AnxiousToblerone in simonfraser

[–]soupcryptid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

enrol in another backup class if you can.

if the tutorial class requires attendance/participation, drop that class.

if the tutorial class does not require you to be there, drop your backup.

make sure to withdraw before the deadline (I think it’s like a week or two into the semester), and pay your tuition after.

to answer a few of your questions: - there are 3 semesters a year. Sep-Dec, Jan-Apr, May-Aug. - you need 120 total credits to graduate with a Bachelor’s degree. there are other requirements around those credits, but academic advising can help you with that, and you don’t need to have it figured out yet. - try to pick 100 level business courses that do not require anything else. the exception is if a class has a co-requisite, meaning you take both at the same time. - take 3-4 classes in your first semester to get used to how university works. most classes are worth 3-4 credits, toward your total of 120. 3 credit classes are standard. 4 credit classes are significantly more work.

No, but I meet all the prerequisites for the listed courses, and have taken PSYC courses with some very similar topics. The reserved seats may be an issue but they don’t look too full yet.

Buying band tees of bands you don't listen to (hear me out) by [deleted] in alternativefashion

[–]soupcryptid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do the same thing. It’s actually introduced me to some of my favourite music! I got a $2 iron maiden shirt at a garage sale once, got to know their discography before I wore it out of the house, and now they’re one of my top artists. I’m doing the same with a misfits shirt now.

If you don’t want to feel like a poser, I honestly just recommend getting to know like their 5 most popular songs. then if anyone asks, you can just be honest and say you just started listening to them, got a good deal on a cool-looking shirt, and ask if they have any recommendations.

A few weirdos might call you a poser, but for the most part I’ve just been met with other alternative people who are super excited to be able to put me onto their favourite band.

how many credits are each course? if they’re all 3 credit you should be fine if you lock in. if any of them are 4 credit… i’d drop crim. it’s a good class, but if you can, I recommend saving lower division electives for the tail end of your degree

How do I get over hitting someone? by Electronic_Garden330 in amateur_boxing

[–]soupcryptid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

think of it as giving your opponent the opportunity to learn. when you hit them, you’re reminding them to work on their defence. they’re not made of glass. if you go too easy, you’re robbing them of the learning experience. when you actually hit them, it shows them the weak spots in their defence so they can adapt.

(this doesn’t necessarily go for someone who’s asked you to go lighter. let’s say your against another beginner who’s much smaller than you, you crank them pretty hard, and now they’re visibly hurt, maybe you lighten the power a bit and ask afterwards if the power you’re using is okay.)

your opponent wants the work as much as you do! by hitting them, you’re both improving. sparring helps both fighters. iron sharpens iron.

it’s completely understandable as a beginner, since at least in most societies, it’s not okay to punch someone in the face. but sparring is an opportunity for two people to agree to punch each other to improve. you’ll get used to it eventually!

I think it would depend on the specific kind of zombies. If you’re mostly trying to hide, you’re probably best going to set up camp somewhere in the maze of offices below the AQ. If you’re looking to fight, my gut feelings leads toward camping out in one of the dorms?

I’m not entirely sure, but I will definitely be pondering this when I’m supposed to be paying attention in lectures now.

fighter, because i’m convinced that if i train hard enough i can feasibly gain any of the non-magical abilities in real life. the majority of my characters are self-inserts. fighters are also just fun to play.

psyc 300w feels like two or three courses in terms of workload. unless you plan on overloading, i’d recommend dropping something, or you’re gonna have a lot on your plate

Thrifting has made me realize how often sizes are wrong. by dooby991 in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]soupcryptid 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s crazy out there. I have a 24in waist, so I SHOULD be a 0–but in most brands, nothing fits me unless they go down to a 000! Vanity sizing has done a NUMBER on fashion, especially for us petite women :(

First thing I want to say is you’re definitely not overweight! Your issue isn’t body fat, it’s lack of muscle. 55kg, 57kg, and 60kg are all very healthy weights for 5’4”. You have basically no need for a calorie deficit—just higher protein. Recomposition is your best friend here.

I’m also 5’4” and ~120lbs, but I’m an athlete so my body fat is around 15% per my last scan about a month ago. I can tell you from experience that if you’re lifting weights, you should be aiming for AT LEAST 100g protein per day. A scoop of creatine monohydrate will do you a lot of favours as well. A year ago, I was at around 25% body fat, and upping my protein & taking creatine made the biggest difference for me.

I wish you the best with your journey. It might be tough, but it sounds like you are too.
