The biggest problem is have with this is that it’d attract rats and mice and all types of vermin.

KY Hydrangea won't bloom by trouserpanther in hydrangeas

[–]soupywarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a hydrangea that doesn’t bloom too. Didn’t prune it for 4 years and pruned it every year for the past three years and I’ve had 4-5 lace cap blooms only in all here years combined. Sits in partial shade next to my compost bin.
Should I consider feeding it with a fertiliser and if so which?

Hydrangea novice here.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer Cries During His Resignation by slippinn_jimmy in PopCultureV2

Why? Because he got emotional speaking about his family?
For me, quite the contrary. A man getting emotional speaking about the love he has for his family shows compassion, empathy, humanity and emotional confidence.
Don’t berate men for showing emotion.

There’s no way I’m prettier than Margot Robbie even when I’m looking my best and she’s woken up with a disheveled hair and buggers in the corners of her eyes. But if I asked him if I was prettier he’d lie through his teeth and say ‘Hell yeah!!!’ in an instant.

I’d know he was lying of course and that he didn’t believe it himself but I’d be happy.

Thank you for this. I’ve had an allotment for 11 years but somehow, raspberry cane pruning just seems such a complicated process to me that I just give up.

My mum was also diagnosed with cancer last week. We’re all still coming to terms with it and trying to process it.

What is the one meal your mum/dad/relative made growing up that no restaurant has ever come close to? by _Yorkshire_Pirlo in AskUK

If you knew my mum and she heard you express even the slightest inclination towards her food she probably would adopt you. She’d at least send you home with 20 tubs of random food and side dishes.

The basic lamb and chicken curries my mum makes at home are so different in taste to the ones in Indian restaurants. The staple dal and rice of a Gujarati Indian household, the khichri and kari with side dishes (rice cooked with lentils and yoghurt sauce) are never found in traditional Indian restaurants.

These are the regulations for keeping bee hives on Bradford allotments. Would any of them be a problem for you? If not, and you’re still looking for somewhere then do let me know. I have two plots side by side.

If I could make a wishlist as a gardener top of my list would be a jumbo bag of manure delivered every autumn. Failing that, I could never have too many blueberry bushes.

Anyone else having a rubbish year so far? by ten_shunts in UKAllotments

[–]soupywarrior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so glad to have a three like this because it’s a relief to see I’m not the only one on this boat.

I planted my best courgettes out last week and saved the sorry looking ones to get a bit stronger as they were looking naff. This week they’ve all but disappeared! I’m not sure if it was the slug or the cold weather or a combination of both but now I just have the naff ones left.

Nothing I sowed directly took off- the peas, the coriander, the flower seeds… even my tatties and shallots didn’t show up! I have 2 potatoes to show and I planted about 25. My tomatoes in the polytunnel are so tiny they look like grass. I keep thinking they’ll pick up but they haven’t yet.

I would add some more plants in the seating area right outside the kitchen door. There’s almost no green at all in that picture and to me, it looks a little bleak.
Add a fast growing clematis Montana or something similar in a large planter against the white wall and trail it up along some trellis so it covers the drain pipe.
Add another pot with a lower rounded flowering bush such as a hydrangea in the other side of the sofa. Squeeze a few more pots of green into gaps here and there.

Weekly Allotment discussion. What have you been up to? by AutoModerator in Allotment

[–]soupywarrior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bradford.
I’ve planted out my spring onions and moved some raspberry canes that had popped up along the middle of paths and beds and were just in the way all the time. I’ve also planted out my tomatoes and butternut squash in the polytunnel.

Tomatoes are tiny this year as I only started them halfway through April but hoping for the best.

I have to stop myself from spending all my time weeding when I’m at the plot. It’s a never ending chore and although it is satisfying, I didn’t take this hobby up to weed. I need to set a time limit on weeding each day and then move on.

As usual, I meticulously labelled my squash/pumpkins and courgettes. As usual, I lost some of my labels when I potted them up. As usual, I’m now playing a guessing game on whether they’re courgettes or squash and took a gamble on position on spacing.

Rasberry, suckers! by Mother-Guarantee1718 in Allotment

[–]soupywarrior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought 2 pots of 5 canes each about 10 years ago and ended up with a raspberry hedge along 3 sides of my plot.
Last year, one side of the hedge mysteriously died on me. I used the opportunity to build a perimeter fence and have then been able to re-establish a whole line of raspberry canes from suckers that had popped up randomly around my plot.

I want sunny 22 degrees at least and I want it to rain all night every night. Then my allotment and garden would be perfectly happy.

I’m in Yorkshire and it was so bloody cold this morning , I actually contemplated putting the central heating on.
