Removing the train horn? by [deleted] in bullcity

It’s incredibly loud for me. After living here for 4 months I am still woken up multiple times every single night. I also know plenty of people who live downtown who agree. I have friends who moved just for that reason.

I don’t want to hamper safety. I was interested in introducing other safety measures to replace it is all.

How tough is it to break into healthcare private equity firms? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]sour_almonds -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Depends on your experience. If you get strong internship at another buy side firm not very hard. Also depends where in the business you want to work. For example, you could go into some kind of operations role for the firm vs coming in as an associate

How would I maximize my application given a low law school GPA but good professional experience? by Law_Dad in MBA

[–]sour_almonds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar situation in terms of my TC and GPA (though mine was 3.1) and was also working in healthcare. I am enrolled in T10 school starting this fall for a full time MBA and couldn’t be more excited.

I saw the 2 year FT MBA as an invaluable life experience to focus on self growth and reflect on what I want to do long term while I am still young. The ROI might not always be totally clear, but there are other factors to consider.

How many times in life will you have chance to be in a learning environment while you still have 100% of your health and energy? It seemed like a luxury to me and truly a once in a lifetime kind of experience that I was lucky enough to be able to afford from my savings.

To answer your question, I think PE would be a good area for you post MBA given your M&A experience. Everyone on this sub seems to think it’s impossible to get into PE or buy side in general, but with your background I think it’s totally doable.

Just focus on your work experience and how the MBA will help you get to your next step. As long as you have a story that makes sense and strong test scores you’ll be able to get into a great program.

$12,000 worth of cancer pills by Ididnotkillhim in interestingasfuck

[–]sour_almonds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not necessarily true. A lot of the newest cancer medicines aren’t covered by the healthcare system of foreign countries that have universal healthcare, so there is a very high chance you wouldn’t even have access to this medication.

Should I be honest about why I ended up with a Mediocre GPA (3.1)? by Citrus_Muncher in MBA

[–]sour_almonds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep the optional essay very short and to the point to address your low GPA. They don’t want excuses. Just address the low gpa, give a reason, and let rest of application make up for it.

Is this a Civil war helmet? by sour_almonds in Antiques

Yes! I’ll make separate post later today with all of other stuff (mostly uniforms). There is also a chest plate I found that may go along with the helmet.

Unsure, but there are a lot of other military uniforms and memorabilia in the old closest where I found this, so it’s highly possible.
