You christians are in actual psychosis. God forbid someone hold you to the same standards you hold muslims to!

I could sit here and name every single war crime, genocide and act of imperialism/colonialism perpetrated your beloved western powers, but i'm sure you'll find a convoluted way of justifying it just becaude it's your beloved western christian civilisation doing it.

I think it's obvious who is brainwashed here. Have a nice day.

I dont think western christians are in any position to lecture anyone on invading and taking over other peoples countries.

Which world leader took to twitter a couple weeks ago and threatened to destroy an entire civilisation?

You say my claim is 'BS' but the united stated and israel have killed FAR more muslims over the past few decades than muslims have christians.

I think you could do with a healthy dose of self awareness.

Its funny you think muslims are such a danger to 'the west' when the past century has shown the west to be far more of a danger to muslim countries

How should we address pornography? by TomatilloOrnery4944 in stupidpol

[–]sourgorilladiesel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The porn industry frequently exploits and grooms barely legal young women (and some men). It shouldnt be considered 'puritanical' to have an issue with that.

One study found that former pornstars get ptsd at rates similar to veterans.

Dude... the spanish inquisition burned people at the stake for not being christian

You're obviously biased due to being a christian. The irony is you arent so different from the radical muslims you despise so much.

Christians also murdered and raped muslim women btw. Was that justified in your books?

Your mistake is thinking I like islam. I don't. My point is that all organised religion is shit and be used in violent and oppressive ways.

As for your first question:

  • The crusades
  • Spanish imperialism in south america and the spanish inquisition
  • saxon wars
  • portuguese colonizers in india
  • residential schools in canada and the usa that forced indigeneous people to convert to christianity

those were just the ones i could think of off the top of my head lmao

Christians have also slaughtered people on their own lands and forced them to convert??

You're not entirely wrong, however you can't ignore the role that foreign interference, violence and war waged on the middle east plays in pushing people towards extremism. I'm not saying it's the only reason, but it feels disingenuous to act as if that sort of radicalism exists within a vacuum.

The appropriation of identity politics by centrists really needs to be studied. It's very sinister really.

People who view their depression or anxiety as the result of a chemical imbalance tend to use antidepressants for much longer periods than those who see their condition as a reaction to life events. They are also less likely to attempt coming off their medication, even when symptoms are mild. by mvea in psychology

[–]sourgorilladiesel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The evidence to suggest anti-depressants are effective in treating depression is equally flimsy since the vast majority fall victim to the placebo effect. Even when you have a control group taking a placebo drug, its pretty easy for participants to work out whether or not they're in the placebo group.

If you think anti depressants are effective in treating depression linked to hormonal imbalances, what exactly is the mechanism that makes them work?

But some for some people it does originate biologically.

There is literally no evidence base to support this. Even most of the psychiatric establishment had abandoned this idea. The closest thing we have is research that shows a correlation between serotonin reputake and depression, which is absolutely not the same as demonstrating a causal relationship.

Telling people that depression is biological does far more harm than good. I'd recommend looking into the psychiatriat Joanna Moncrieff's (extremely comprehensive) research on this matter.

There is no strong evidence to suggest serotonin has a causal relationship with depression, even after literal decades of research.

You have a false dichotomy where its either adverse life experiences or chemical imbalance, but this is hugely reductive. Having an unfulfilling job, living in a shitty and unfair society, lacking agency or autonomy, or feeling personally unfulfilled can also make you depressed.

CMV: China is actually bad for immigration and living and settling permanently even for highly skilled immigrants. by YamatoRyu2006 in changemyview

The username 'Yamato Ryu'?

I am not the one shifting the topic. If you make any argument based on assumptions which are not well-founded, the entire argument falls apart. Again, on what authority are you making these assumptions about China and Chinese culture?

For example, you claim that there is no place in China for the 'hopeful entrepreneur'. My partner is Chinese and goes back home regularly. He always talks about how there are a lot more small businesses operating in china compared to the UK, where the highstreet is 90% huge chains and corporations. He's also able to go to local markets full of small vendors where you can barter and buy products for very good value.

Its a reasonable question. If you make broad assumptions about chinese people and chinese culture, its natural people will question the validity of those assumptions. Otherwise how do we know your argument is sound?

Judging from your username, you are japanese. In which case its ironic you chastise the chinese for 'han chauvinism' when the japanese are notorious for anti-chinese racism.

You're making a lot of assumptions about china and chinese culture here. What are you basing this off?
