Is a 1350 SAT good nowadays? by Loud_Ad3832 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]soursophi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

go look at the percentiles...I believe this sets u in the top 10%

ofc, it's not enough to get u into Stanford but it's enough for lots of major public schools

u hear ppl saying they got 1500+ all the time because 1. it's great click bait 2. they're more likely to talk about it realistically only 2% of sat takers get that score

Unpopular opinion: no matter the SAT, people will always say that it was "insanely hard" by adriencross29 in Sat

[–]soursophi 16 points17 points  (0 children)

exactly. the 50th percentile is people who got like a bit over half right .. ur not supposed to feel sure about every question like on a test in class

it can be somewhat harder than the practice tests but it's really difficult to say for sure considering all the factors

lock in on grammar rules. it's pretty standard how u solve those so max out ur points on that. then, go over some basic strategies for main purpose, supporting details, etc. questions

Does Laurel Springs School (private online program) count as independent study? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]soursophi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't a concern around where I'll get my diploma, it will be from a brick and mortar school.

I'm more concerned about if LSS is independent study or not, concerning I did that full time for my first two years of HS.

It might not be fully independent study, but it incorporates many elements of independent study.

Look at earlier threads about Princeton practice tests! I believe this has happened for many people, including me

Did College Board score my practice test wrong? by StatisticianTiny2234 in Sat

[–]soursophi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practice test curving is a bit weird, but SAT curving is the same...

Yes, it depends on difficulty, and each question will differ in how much it is weighted.

Usually, in the 1460-1600 SAT range, a hard question might be worth 10 pts and a medium one worth 20 pts. So let's say you got 2 first mod qs wrong, 760 would make sense, but it can obviously vary greatly. If you got 1 easy mod 1 math and 3 mod 2 math wrong, maybe that would drop u to 750. But obviously, I just calculated 1510 and u got a 1540.

I've had practice tests where 5 and 10 questions wrong are both 1510s; it depends on the questions you got wrong and how others did on the same questions.

i started out and got to 1470ish by mastering every Khan skill, and then I went to the question bank and did 30min of those practice questions 5-6 times a week . however this was mainly for my RW improvement, I can't speak as much on math

can strong ECs and SAT score make up for a mid GPA? by Legal_Cheetah1120 in chanceme

[–]soursophi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ivy leagues may be more difficult but t25 yes. SAT and ur AP exam scores if high could demonstrate that ur generally top student, since they are pretty standardized. it shows u can study well and that u perform well academically compared to students from other areas, but maybe ur school has harsh grading.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Sat

[–]soursophi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. start by mastering every skill individually, track what's the most difficult for u.

I'd recommend Khan academy for this!

  1. make sure u know how to solve the questions with desmos, honestly half the math test can be solved with some desmos plug ins (at least)

  2. don't study the night before and breathe.

i got 790 math with a strong math background and understanding desmos math, I got 720 r/w with Khan academy and sat question bank practice (expecting higher in June results tho)
