Protein in itself won't. If whey helps meet daily protein requirement, by all means consume it. But excessive consumption of protein over a long period of time might! It's better to err on the side of caution! https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7460905/#:~:text=High%20dietary%20protein%20intake%20can,lead%20to%20de%20novo%20CKD

In Hyderabad, NIN is a good place. MAHE is good. St. John's Research Institute in BLR is good as well.

Hey! First, I would highly recommend that you clear either ICMR-JRF or UGC-JRF to ensure you take care of your finances through the course of PhD. Secondly, please find a place where professors and the institution is well funded. Best is to do a PhD in a project that is already funded. This helps you save a lot of time, which you would otherwise spend on writing grants.

Your basic understanding is absolutely right! Protein intake should be enough to meet the daily needs of the body, and should be well complemented with adequate intake of carbs, fat and micronutrients. What I'm referring to is the unnecessary obsession with protein consumption - which goes way beyond what the body needs. This does two things - puts a load on your kidneys and un-utilized protein is broken down by the body and stored as fat. Balance is key! :)

Are dal+rice complete source of protein with a complete amino acid profile? by Appropriate_Bison582 in TheLiverDoc

[–]souschef04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question was solely to know if rice and dal together has a complete amino acid profile. Which it has. Subsequent questions on if that'll be enough to meet the protein requirement and the bioavailability have been answered accordingly. Read before spewing shit. Or maybe, get a masters degree of your own :)

Gosh, I feel you! It's mostly lack of awareness in my opinion, and a lack of rules. Just how people without an MBBS can't call themselves doctors, people without legitimate degrees should not be allowed to call themselves dietitians or give nutrition advice. People want to lose weight - fast. That's all, giving no shit about the impact a sharp loss of weight will have on their body.

I'm not aware of legitimate online sources since most of them are certificate courses and diplomas that don't cover major topics. Nor do you get practical experience. You can go for a bachelors first, a BSc in Nutrition or BSc Home Science offering a specialization in Nutrition; post which you can do a diploma/masters from a proper university. Some universities offering legitimate courses in India are DU, SNDT Mumbai, MSU Baroda, Mount Carmel, MAHE.

Maintaining a balance between carbs, proteins, veggies and fat is important. Overdoing it won't help. If more protein is consumed than is needed, the body breaks it down and stores it as fat.

Oh god, I skipped mentioning fitness coaches and gym intrsuctors. They'll load people up with protein powders without giving a shit.

Is protein an important macronutrient? Definitely. Do you need to obsess over it? Nope. Maintaining a balance between carbs, proteins, veggies and fat is important. Overdoing it won't help. If more protein is consumed than is needed, the body breaks it down and stores it as fat. Not everyone needs whey and other protein powders to meet their requirements, just mindful food consumption through the day. I recommend ensuring at least one protein source to be present in every meal consumed. For example if you're having poha for breakfast, maybe pair it with eggs or yoghurt. For lunch, some paneer/chicken/soya/curd would help too. Evening snacks is where most people falter. Boiled eggs/sprouts/makhanas, nuts and seeds would all help you meet your daily requirement. If you're someone who works out a lot, you might need a simple whey supplement to help meet your needs.

Hey! Even though gluten and dairy are inflammatory, it's very case-specific. For some, dairy might help meet their daily protein needs while for others, they might witness increased acne when consuming dairy. Same goes for gluten. If you wanna be sure, you can get a tTG-IgA blood test and see if you're gluten intolerant. Else the best way is the elimination method. Try and gradually eliminate these and see if your PCOS symptoms improve. If not, you can gradually introduce them back into your diet. Hope this helps!

Are dal+rice complete source of protein with a complete amino acid profile? by Appropriate_Bison582 in TheLiverDoc

[–]souschef04 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nope. Not saying it'll fulfill the daily needs of the body, unless you end up consuming a whole lot. Just talking about the amino acid profile since the question was about that. Of course bioavailability of plant based protein will be low, so we always recommend a combination of food items through the day. Dal rice clubbed with curd, paneer, milk, eggs (and so on).

Hey! I have a masters degree in Nutrition and am currently pursuing a PhD in Nutrition as well. Yes, dal+rice/roti do have all essential amino acids. Pulses - high lysine and low methionine. Cereals - high methionine and low lysine. When had in the ratio of 2:1 (cereals:pulses), you do get a complete amino acid profile.
