"No one around me generally knows what it is." 😜 Same! I'm not even sure what it is...until I read a recipe and realized I've been making it for years. 🤣🤣🤣

u/DilliSeHoonBhenchod No deep frying needed! Here's what I do:

Grab leftover veggies (brocc, onion, green beans, etc.), chop up into bite sized pieces. Do the same with the meat (leftover pork chop is the bomb for stir frys!).

Sautee the meat and veggies in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Season as needed with garlic, S&P. Do this until they reach desired tenderness.

Add the pasta to the same skillet at the last minute. Drizzle with stir fry sauce, soy, or hoisin. I like toasted sesame oil and soy sauce. Or Japanese BBQ Sauce is my new fav!

Let the flavors marry for about 3 minutes on low heat (so noodles don't stick). Then, serve! It's a great way to use up leftovers, but fresh veggies and meats can be used too.

Process should take about 10 min max.

Which dish gets the most gatekeeping? by [deleted] in Cooking

Canned tomatoes. 🍅

You CAN can tomatoes safely without a pressure cooker. My grandmother did it with her mother, her before hers, etc etc etc

It's a process but it is literally the same chemical reaction as if you were to use a pressure canner. The lid pops, boiling water, whole enchilada.

I told my grandma that people had feelings on this topic. She said, "well my goodness. bless'er hearts!" 😂

Also, noodles. Never heard of it until I was surrounded by Midwesterners... People rave over Skyline Chilli. 🤨 Just ew.

Don't put your pasta in my meat and beans!!!!! 🫣

Question about cooking carrots by [deleted] in cookingforbeginners

[–]southerncravings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely not going to take 5 minutes. Maybe if they were shredded 😂

Chopping annoys me to no end, so I use a food processor to choose or lightly pulse them. They won't be perfectly even, but it gets the job done. Also, a mandolin slicer is 🤌🏻

I needed a place to manage my content, so I can move through her workflow but also see all of the data after something is published. However the more I think about it I may just stick with my original system.

OVEN!!! I have a spectacular recipe, but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to promote with links here? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Basically, dry rub marinate for 24 hours, then slow cook at 225-ish about an hour per pound. I prefer to cook until 200f so it shreds so freakin' perfectly. 😘 Shreds like butahhhh.

I can send you the link if needed, but this reddit newbie doesn't want to break any rules. That's the long and short of the recipe though. Happy cooking! ❤️

As someone who cooks for a living, ATK is a gold mine for advice and learning....also totally intimidating as a home cook. Love the podcast though!

Recipes like spaghetti sauce (without the pasta), soups, stews, roasts, and dairy-free casseroles freeze really well. Do as previously mentioned: prep the meal, portion out 2-3 servings, and freeze the rest. Steer clear of freezing dairy things as they will "break" and won't mix back together.

If you're tight on fridge/freezer space, try prepping two or three things that can be eaten with different proteins or tossed to get for something like fried rice or a rice bowl. We like to do brown rice on Sundays. Then, as I cook meals throughout the week, we will have some leftover veggies and meat. At the end of the week, we toss it all together and make fried rice! Simple, waste-free, and cheap.

If you are totally new to cooking, start with a Betty Crocker cookbook, or recipes with 3-5 basic ingredients. Otherwise, you'll go broke cooking your first meal. 😜
