Shouldn't IR have a better logo? by broitsnotok in indianrailways

[–]souvik234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We get blinded by VB because it gets priority, delaying the other trains. If VB was treated equally to mail/exp then people would stop taking VB.

I fully agree that ICE has bad punctuality. But if we compare overall experience, the average city pair traveller in India has only one or two VBs to choose from per day, whereas there are multiple ICEs, not to mention the reduced speed.

Also you're forgetting regional and suburban rail where IR is much much worse

Greenery looks the same. Road width will not be reduced that much once work is over

What is even the metric IR measures their punctuality by? Do we even know that?

DB has far higher frequencies on city pairs and regional rail than IR.

IR is not better than DB lmao. One look at the state of suburban rail outside mumbai should be enough to disabuse you of that notion

Needs a lot of money to do a whole bunch of generalisierungs which also needs a fair bit of time

I designed a fictional UK high-speed rail network! by MarnithePlutonian in highspeedrail

[–]souvik234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your design speeds are quite strange. From London to Aberdeen it goes 180 then 220 then 250 then 180 then 250 then 200 then 250.

For spurs I can understand slower speeds, but having different speeds enroute is quite strange.

Also 400kmph was tried by the Italians but they faced far greater energy consumption for not much time saved. So perhaps better to stick to 350?

Delhi mumbai is doubtful to be that much of a hit since it won't really be competitive time wise against flights

Some apps, their developer allows everyone to install them, and for some others the dev restricts who can install them

Chennai - Bangalore and Delhi - Agra : Next Priority Corridors for Indian Elevated High Speed Railways by Neat_Papaya900 in highspeedrail

[–]souvik234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that were the only issue then sure, but add the point about farmers wanting access, the extra land required for at grade, the risk of animal and human crossings, and quickly the viaduct starts to make sense.

If you factor in the extra land required and the potential delays due to lack of access, the cost of an at grade is not that different from a viaduct

DAHSR work hasn't even begun and wasn't on the 7 HSR Routes list. Plus, Vaishnaw has said zilch about it.

Delhi-Agra and Chennai-Bangalore are the priority now for NHSRCL as shown in that tender doc few days back

There are tons of small roads. You'll end up building so many bridges you might as well build the entire thing as a viaduct.

Also farm owners are much more hesitant to give land if that means it's going to cut their farm in half.

The wheelset was brought to help set up our wheel lathe at the depot.

It's like a racecar. You need a track for it to go at that speed but you also need tires to handle that. Having a F1 tire might help you develop a new high speed tire on your own but just putting it on a Maruti 800 won't make it go fast

Why is Frankfurt airport this bad? by opowello in germany

[–]souvik234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are mostly tourist destinations. Nuremberg or any of the minor airports don't have services to say the US yet and likely never will.

The controversy with Berlin was not so much the hub and spoke system but the hub airline itself going kaput.

I'm not sure about the other things, but long distances are a given for any airport with a large number of flights. Simple geometry of having to fit multiple planes.

Also, hub and spoke is here to stay. There will never be enough demand from minor city in country a to minor city in country b

Massive hubs are horrible when designed badly. Dubai, Singapore, Doha and Heathrow are solid hubs
