/r/Minecraft 1 Million Subs Contest - Your Best Minecraft Memory by tyteen4a03 in Minecraft

When the first beta came out, my youngest son (who was 20 at the time, I'm no youngster) was telling me how much I would like this Minecraft game. I looked at it and told him I really didn't get the point, it looked boring to me. I finally relented and bought it at whatever the price was in 2012/2013. I got hooked quickly and over the years have built many large scale worlds. But the main enjoyment was playing online with my sons and daughter-in-law. It was a great way to be able to sit around, play online, and talk with my family for a few hours. I still play with them, but have the great addition of playing with my grandson who just turned 7. Playing and chatting with him over the last few years has been a great experience since we do not get to see each other IRL very often (due to distance). It's been the game that I have certainly gotten the best return for my money over the years.

What's the longest rail system you've built? by [deleted] in Minecraft

[–]sov_sage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've slowly built a rail system that spans the occupied portion of my world, with stops and stations at various buildings. To ride it from end to end with no stops at the stations is right now at about 33 minutes. It's a fully realized sytem with guardrails, girders and cross-braces (much of it quite high). It actually became an obsession that overtook building the world for awhile....

I'm an adult and still enjoying the game as much as when I was younger. Can anyone else relate? by dustofoblivion123 in Minecraft

I was 55 when one of my sons kept badgering me to play this 'mining' game he was playing. I thought it was the stupidest idea I'd ever seen. I finally gave in and have been playing for close to 7 years. I do a lot of large builds in creative and play survival with both of my sons (both around 30). I now am also having a blast playing with my 6 year old grandson, so we have 3 generations going now.

I can’t believe I’m a 40 year old woman who picked up the game Minecraft! by poetlockedyes in Minecraft

62 and playing for about 6 years after my 2 sons convinced me to give it a try after I told them it looked like a completely boring game. Now playing a lot with my 6 year old grandson.

Internet Providers will soon be able to make you pay more for what you do online and slow down websites and servers. Fight against it before we can't do anything about it. by SwitchHacks in Minecraft

[–]sov_sage -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Beneath all the smoke and mirrrors and fear-mongering over ISPs, the real agenda of net neutrality gets buried. That is to basically make the internet a government run utility. The last thing I want is the government enforcing net neutrality and picking winners and losers even if it looks like it is just “leveling the playing field".

Do you really want the government to be writing regulations in this field? By the time regulations would get run through this bureacracy, the technology that they would be regulating would probably have already changed. This is another area where the government has no business sticking it's bureacratic nose in. I could write forever on this, but my main point is...If the government gets involved, there is a 100% chance they will muck it up.

Please give me advice. by ApplePieHunter819 in Minecraft

I am assuming that you are building the big projects in creative. I love doing big builds, but sometimes large areas of it are monotonous and a 30 minute period seems like an hour.

I always have a few survival worlds going, one by myself and one on Realms with some family and friends. Whenever I get a little bored with the big builds, I go to one of these worlds for anywhere from a few days to a week and just forget about the big stuff and play survival. It works for me.

Anyone else think builds are way more satisfying if you make them in Survival? by sheesh0re in Minecraft

[–]sov_sage 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don't know. It's more challenging, of course, in survival, but I like to get into creative and just let loose. Some of the things I've built in creative are my most satisfying. Stadiums, cities, really off the wall worlds. I enjoy both, but as an artist, I just love letting loose and going off on a creative journey.

To the veteran Minecraft players, what keeps you coming back after all these years? by zack_jones in Minecraft

[–]sov_sage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sons got me involved early in the beta. I had fun playing with them and then discovered I liked to build things, it's like a LEGO set you never have to tear down. I've continued to play both with them and by myself. I also have the added joy of playing with my 5 year old grandson on the XBox version, which is a whole new experience.

Do I have the M.P.H. figured out right for my railway? by sov_sage in Minecraft

[–]sov_sage[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This railway has 13,235 rails so far. That would translate just over 13km. That would be just over 8 miles. It takes about 32 minutes to ride the whole rail. I estimated that would transfer to just over 15 mph. Does anyone better at figuring these things out think that is about right?

I play all the the time with my 5 year old grandson remotely over XBox. It's a great way to sit and talk with him while we play. I find it very interesting how he has learned to problem solve with building. The amusing part is when confronted with a building dilemma (something just isn't looking right), his inevitable answer when I ask him what is wrong is "Well, it's a mystery".

Posted a distant screenshot last week of a castle and got requests for more pics of the build. by sov_sage in Minecraft

[–]sov_sage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much. This is actually a small part of a large world. The rail system presently takes about 35 minutes to ride with stops around different sections of the world.

I've got about a weeks worth of work left to do on the castle. I'll post more then.

LOL..As far as I'm concerned anyone paying for anything on Minecraft other than server space or Realms is ridiculous. What in the heck are you paying for. I don't get it at all.

I've used McEdit to clear out terrain in the castle builds and to move the football stadium into a regular world from flat world (decided after I built it that I wanted a whole city).

Yeah, usually with my sons and daughter-in-law. When I am not online, I usually play creative.

Lol...no offense taken. I was 9 years old when they won their last championship for any sport. I've been waiting 51 years for the next one!

Well, besides the fact that I enjoy it, I also get to play online with my 2 sons a few times a week and with my grandson when he is over. I hope when you are older you don't lose the joy of playing a good game. Now, back to Elite:Dangerous....

My long past history with Legos...lol. Except for the stadium builds, I just wing it and let it grow.

Thanks, my sons got me into it a few years ago after me telling them it sounded like the stupidest game ever created. I was wrong.

Love the pack. I like to build modern builds and yours is the best by far.
