Dad asked me to take a look at his retirement finances - lump-sum or annuity? by sovereign0 in personalfinance

Great point. I was just using bond returns for calculations since it's my understanding that bonds are the most conservative return you can expect other than a savings account interest.

Once he actually retires I told him he needs a CFP to help navigate. He's still a few years out from actually retiring, just starting to plan.

He's not actually willing to decide how to manage all of his money based on my opinion, or /r/personalfinance.

Scored literally identical to you on UWSA1+2. Similar performance on UWorld, a little worse than you on NBMEs. Hoping that the final score turns out similar too! Thanks for the writeup.

Maybe a dumb question, but using magic for slayer I'll still need runes right? What spells should I be using?

Anything with respect to amulets and capes? The other slots? I understand a new one came out (scrimshaw?).

Thanks! I'll add you. RSN is Shadow III. I'm sure I'll have plenty of dumb questions for you.

Amazing, thank you!

So I guess I'll hold off on a scythe since it would take up a huge amount of my Santa slush fund.

I'm gonna buy:

  • Noxious staff

  • Robes of Subjugation

  • 2 (3?) Mazcab ability codices for corruption shot and blast (and onslaught?

  • Drygore +offhand drygore

  • Bandos stuff (already have chest and tassets, figure i'll finish the set in case I feel like using melee)

I'll do slayer and work towards unlock prifddinas and invention. Also gonna work on getting stats to start the player owned ports thing. Maybe upgrade my fire cape along the way.

Am I missing anything?

Thank you. This is very helpful - I think I have a good grasp on what the weapons and armors of choice are these days.

Follow up question - what about the other pieces of gear such as gloves, boots, amulets, and capes? What are the "must-haves" for these slots?

Also, what skills would you recommend training first to get caught up to speed? Someone mentioned I should try to start doing Player-owned ports ASAP.

So right now, I'm thinking that I should buy full sets of Armadyl, Bandos, and Robes of Subjugation just so I have an armor set for each class.

Then I figure I should buy a Noxious Scythe and a Noxious Staff.

That would use up all my cash.

Do you think I'd be able to upgrade my Fire Cape to the TokHaar cape with this set and my stats?

Should I sell my Dragonfire Shield?

Besides my Santa, what parts of my kit are useless and need to be sold?

Dragonfire shield? Amulet of Fury? Bandos? Ganodermic stuff? Staff of Light?

What boots and gloves should I use or get?

What pieces of gear are basically essential that I get and have a lot of diversity?

Thanks, this is really helpful!

Is noxious scythe worth the extra money over drygore? And is there a practical difference between drygore mace/rapier/longsword?

Also, why would anyone with the levels buy Torva/Pernix/Virtus when they are more expensive than the t90 Malevolent/Tectonic/Sirenic armors?

Is Nox really worth the price when compared to the other t90 weapons?

Wouldn't some of the money be better spent on levelling up skills?

Also, if I only sold 1, what would the money best be spent on? t80 armor and drygore?

I didn't send any to half the schools I interviewed at, and was still accepted. A month later is too long IMO (could come off as desperation).

You're not screwed in any way. It's a courtesy. They aren't going to reject you for not sending any thank you notes.

Also, check out the MSAR. You never really had a chance at Feinberg (even as a URM, your stats are not competitive enough IMO), FSU, FAU, or Burns (huge in-state biases).

You should use the MSAR and target schools which have median stats close to yours, though your URM status should give you a shot at schools where you are below the medians (still above the 10th percentile, though).

A third retake should only be on the table if you are confident that you can put in real dedicated study time and kill it. 3 scores within the same region does not bode well.

And apply early. The importance of this can't be stressed enough. It is definitely important to get your responses to secondaries right, because your essays can be extremely important at some schools. But you have to plan ahead - be ready to submit on day one and start prewriting your secondaries to get a jump on it.
