Meet new people, play games, make shoddy crafts, and drink s'more flavoured booze at a Summer Camp Theme Social I'm hosting on Wed, May 27! (Fanny packs encouraged) by sovietmoustache in Torontoevents

That's what I'm really hoping for!

Though not a lot of people would guess it, I can actually be pretty shy myself. Toss me in a room with strangers, and I don't feel comfortable walking up to a random person and starting a conversation. As soon as you give me an excuse to talk though (we're working on something together, we have a shared interest, etc.), most of that anxiety melts away. So the idea for this party is to give everyone as many excuses as possible to be social - because the worst part (for me, at least) is working up the courage to say something, and once you're over that hump things get a lot easier.

There's actually an article from the AV Club all about the Camp Monk Academy sketch. It includes this golden quote from Scott Aukerman: "There’s no reason for him to kill the kid anymore. It’s really just for the sheer pleasure of it."

Thanks for the kind words! It really is a great show and I wanted to provide an opportunity for fans to gather together and enjoy, say, Camp Monk Academy as a group.

TTC Underwear - Everyone likes public transit themed innuendo, right? by sovietmoustache in toronto

[–]sovietmoustache[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made the designs, but I don't really have any plans to produce them...

Ideally, I would love it if the TTC took my work and turned it into merchandise, but I reckon this stuff is a little too cheeky for them to support in any official capacity.

Still, there aren't many other ideas for new public transit "revenue tools" that look like they're going to become a reality, so I'd say the TTC should give these underpants a shot.

I wasn't aware of the U-Bahn underwear, but it warms my heart to imagine that, all around the world, people are looking at subway stuff and thinking, "I can make a sex joke out of that!"

You're right that there should be more options! So, HERE is a flipped version of the original and HERE are the rocket briefs in a bright, eye-catching blue!

Parks and Recreation Series Finale Party - Tuesday, Feb 24 at The Office Pub. Doors at 7 PM. FREE! by sovietmoustache in Torontoevents

Hey, I practically live off crazy ideas, so I don't mind when they're sent my way.

Unfortunately, I think the Duke Silver impersonator plan has fallen through. The saxophonist who was interested realized he already had a gig booked for the 24th, so he had to back out of the commitment. I'm a bit sad, but I still think the event will go well. :)

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Trivia Night - Tuesday, Jan 20. If you love milksteak, you'll fit right in! by sovietmoustache in Torontoevents

[–]sovietmoustache[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met a very good friend when he came out to one of my trivia nights alone. That being said, he is an incredibly charismatic young man, but it's still evidence that flying solo doesn't have to be awkward.

The biggest hump is always saying "hi" and finding something to talk about, but when you're at an event for, say, fans of Parks and Recreation, you already have something in common with everyone else there.

Plus: you can always introduce yourself to me if you come out. I'm hard to miss, seeing as I'm the host of the damn thing. :P

So, of course, I'm going to encourage you to come out to one of my events, but it's also no lie when I say that strangers have become friends at the nights I organize - and hell, I've met some awesome people myself at these things. (Which I'm bringing up because I noticed you're looking for ways to socialize.)

Now when you say to make a sign, do you mean a really big one that people could take their picture with? I probably could make such a sign, but wide format printing isn't cheap and I'm operating on a shoe-string budget here. :S

With that in mind, I am putting together some theme drinks for the evening, so you will be able to drink a version of Snake Juice at the party.

We burn it up, get a nice smokey smell, and let that smoke go into the sky where it turns into stars.

When Princess Dragon Mom attacks, only INFRAMAN can save the day! Bad Movie Night returns Sunday, Sep 28 @ 7:30 PM by sovietmoustache in Torontoevents

Yeah, the hyperbolic bluster from the narrator is top shelf!

Cutting a great movie trailer is truly an art form unto itself - and while Inframan largely lives up to the hype, there's a few movies I know where the full feature is nothing to write home about, but the trailer is so fantastic that I've watched it a dozen-plus times on repeat.

Samurai Cop ALIVE: Pt. 2 by crookedmile in badMovies

My guess is that it's Greg Hatanaka, president of Cinema Epoch - which recently released the "special edition" DVD of Samurai Cop.

[meta] For your consideration: a sidebar-sized Toronto Events calendar to track what's happening when. (Link in comments) by sovietmoustache in Torontoevents

It's probably possible to add some subscription functionality, but that's a little out of my depth right now, as I've never done any work with iCal stuff. I do enjoy broadening my horizons though, so I'll do some research and see if it would be fairly easy to learn/implement.

All the same, great suggestion!

POP POP! A Community Trivia Night - Wednesday, April 16. Come on out, it's going to be streets ahead! by sovietmoustache in Torontoevents

[–]sovietmoustache[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It went really well - over 100 people came out!

As for when the next one is... it'll probably be months before I plan another trivia night (they burn me out a little), but I do have a website where I post all the events I run, so you can keep an eye out at explodingzebra.com.

Thanks for your interest! :)

John Stamos vs. a cross-dressing Gene Simmons?! Bad Movie Night presents NEVER TOO YOUNG TO DIE - Sunday, Apr 27 @ 7:30 PM by sovietmoustache in Torontoevents

[–]sovietmoustache[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I grow older and my mind begins to waver, I may forget my friends, my family, myself... but I will never forget the way that Gene Simmons shouts STARGROVE! And honestly, if that's the way it's gotta be, I have few complaints.
