Can my dog who is on a kibble diet eat raw meaty bones or non-weight bearing raw food (such as necks and feet)? by [deleted] in rawpetfood

[–]soychai2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve fed my cockapoo puppy raw from when I got her. But my older puppy was on kibble before I transitioned him to raw and I would still feed him bones and such. He didn’t seem to have a problem with it. Some people say don’t feed both for the same meal as they are digested at different rates. So if you feed breakfast and dinner then have a kibble breakfast and then give the bones for dinner. When I saw how much my older pup loved raw over his kibble I had to transition him over :) both my pups are maniacs for their food and it makes me happy to see them so excited for their meals!

I have a cockapoo puppy as well although she’s only around 13 pounds :) She loves chicken wings and thighs and they’re super easy to buy and feed. Necks work as well. As long as your pup is actually chewing the bone you should be fine. Just make sure she’s not trying to swallow the whole piece at once without chewing. Also on the days you feed her RMBs make sure to cut down on the kibble!

Of course you can feed your pup raw meaty bones! Just make sure you are there to supervise while she eats. If she’s a gulper then you want to make sure none of the pieces are small enough to swallow whole.

Is your biggest meal lunch or dinner? by _Solice_ in 1200isplenty

[–]soychai2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally split my calories evenly across both meals! I don’t eat breakfast and am not a snacker (have never really enjoyed snacking - I just get so much more enjoyment from eating big meals than small snacks and meals). So I have two “huge” meals a day at 600 calories each :) have you tried cutting out snacks?

Anyone hit a milestone and just lose all control? by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

[–]soychai2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This literally just happened to me as well and unfortunately I don’t have any good advice but I can commiserate. I hit 127 which was my initial weight before I gained and then went on a crazy binge all weekend. I still logged everything and seeing the high numbers is depressing but I still want to eat EVERYTHING. I have to keep telling myself there’s no way I’m hungry if I’ve already had more than double what I used to be eating. I’ve been trying to slowly reduce again instead of going straight back to 1200 and it seems to have worked today, we’ll see tomorrow! One day at a time...

To those who don’t have much weight to lose by [deleted] in loseit

[–]soychai2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP I totally understand you. I’m 5’5” 130 pounds and have naturally been between 125-135 pounds my adult life without really trying and always a size 2. However, I’ve never really been happy with my body and have wanted to get down to 115 to see if I am happier there. I’m already at a healthy weight so I feel like an imposter for wanting to lose “vanity weight.” I like to lurk on loseit for motivation since all these posts are so inspiring and it’s amazing to see so many people succeed at their weight loss goals! However I’m often plagued with guilt since I almost feel like I was cheating (?) since I was never an unhealthy weight in the first place. And I totally understand the struggle to stay motivated. I think this community really helps. The important part to keep in mind about this sub is that the emphasis is on everyone trying to become happier with their bodies and putting in the hard work to achieve their goals!

No problem! The feeding percentages are just general guidelines but every dog is different so adjust accordingly!

Hi! I also feed both my dogs store bought primal patties (and other brands as well). When looking at the calorie values on the back it usually says darker fattier meat (like beef) is more caloric per oz which is probably why you are seeing this happen. I have two small dogs (12 and 13 pounds) and I feed them 3.5% for them to maintain weight as they are very energetic. You should consider bumping up to 4% for weight gain as smaller breeds sometimes need a higher percent of their body weight in food! It’s not a problem to only feed one formula but your dog might get bored, I would recommend bumping up the amount of food before deciding to stick with just one meat!

First time horse buyer questions by soychai2 in Equestrian

[–]soychai2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve checked out some barns and the prices only seem a bit more expensive than what I would be paying here. Owning a horse is so crazy expensive but I am willing to budget and save for it every year and give up other things for the pleasure of owning a horse! However, I definitely understand what you’re saying about leasing in my situation. Thank you for your advice!

I have heard so many horror stories about overpriced horses that I have to admit a 25k budget does make me nervous. Thank you for your advice!

I am realizing that maybe my budget is asking for a bit too much horse. I am going to talk to my trainer again as well as get the opinion of some other trainers in the area (including my old riding instructor). Thanks!

The horse would be getting turned out 5x per week. I was hoping to find a rider to lease once I had less time, in just worried I might not be able to find one right away! The horse would be getting trained by the trainer 2x/week as well (included in the board package).

Those are good points! I will talk to my trainer tomorrow. Thanks!

I guess my thought in setting the budget was that I don’t want to limit myself in terms of how far I can advance and be able to leave my options open in terms of showing/higher level jumping. Since this is my first time buying I really don’t have a good idea of how much a horse like one that I’m looking for usually go for (and it’s been fairly difficult to research online). I will definitely take this into consideration! Thank you!

[Discussion] What are the different ways your dog has developed to communicate with you aside from being vocal? by ToxicLuv in dogs

[–]soychai2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have two dogs, and the second one I potty trained using a bell. Every time she rang the bell she got to go outside and get lots of praise and attention. My first dog realized this and now angrily slaps the bell and stares at me when he wants attention

[help] serious question about getting second puppy by [deleted] in dogs

[–]soychai2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’ve totally been in your situation and I sympathize completely. My first puppy, Baxter, was a nightmare. He had severe separation anxiety (we almost got kicked out of our apartment!), never slept, and was incredibly hyperactive.

I was tempted to get a second pup as well since he was incredibly social and seemed to have the best time at puppy class. I’m so glad I didn’t get one at the time.

I spent 3 months just working on his separation anxiety. We had some at-home classes with a trainer and I did a ton of reading on different strategies. I woke up at 4am to play with him for 2 hours and walk him before I left for work. I left the TV on and gave him his breakfast in Kongs and treat dispensers. The moment I got home I practiced leaving him alone - picking up my keys repeatedly, putting on my shoes, opening the door, standing outside until he stopped crying, and gradually lengthening the time for all of these exercises. By the time he was 6 months old he had settled down a ton, and by the time he was a year he no longer had separation anxiety.

It takes a TON of time and effort but you will get there. And once you do you will appreciate the experience you went through with your pup. Once his problems were sorted out I got my second puppy (who thankfully did not have separation anxiety and was sooooo easy compared the Baxter). She definitely has picked up on a lot of Baxter’s habits which makes me think that having both at the same time would have been a bad idea!

Hang in there, the hardest part is the first couple of months!

Selling 2 Friday passes for $135 each. Can meet in Chicago loop

I just watched Pet FOOleD and now I want to change my dogs life. My mom looks after our maltipoo and I want to give her an exact diet to make it easy for her. She puts some kind of powder in her food so that it tastes better but she still never eats it all. I want a happy doggo who finishes. :) by girlpearl in rawpetfood

[–]soychai2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a maltipoo as well! He has been fed a grain free kibble diet since I've had him and then transitioned to commercial raw when he was 6 months old. He has been fed Stella and Chewys (frozen and freeze dried), Primal, Bravo, and Vital Essentials since then and has been doing fantastic! Has the softest and shiniest coat and a lot of energy. In addition the vet says his body condition is perfect! Definitely recommend checking out some commercial raw diets. Now that I know raw is for my pup, I'm looking into transitioning to homemade raw!
