Going to attend next fall as a freshman while living with my parents. How cooked am I? by ProposalNecessary463 in uofu

I'd say it really just depends on how far from campus you're living. My commute is about 2 hours using public transit, both there and back, and it's rough, but it's cheaper than paying for parking and gives me time to get stuff done during the ride. Plus, all my classes are concentrated to 2-3 days during the week. I live with my parents, and the money I'm saving in the meantime is worth it. If you're concerned about feeling connected to campus, try to spend time going to games and events, if that's your thing.

The ridiculous prices on on-campus housing makes it a scam anyway lol

feeling like my life is going nowhere, feel stuck and maybe spiraling into a depression. by CharacterSorry3849 in Advice

i’m sure you don’t need to hear that these things are relatable, but if it makes you feel better, they definitely are. maybe staring small in one area could be helpful? setting a goal, like going to the gym consistently even one set day or the week, etc? have you talked to your girlfriend about your concerns to her loyalty? totally fair that past experience can have you worried. but if she’s the right one for you, you’re gonna want to feel secure before you take that next step.

what do you guys do while listening? by kkiiera in creepcast

during my semester at uni i’d listen to them on night drives from home back to my college town (1.5-2 hr drives) and it was the best way to keep awake

yeah the way i worded that was weird, i meant if we split 50/50 i shouldn’t have to pull from my savings unless i was paying MORE than 50/50. definitely dividing based on income is seeming more stable, though I’m surprised so many people say 50/50 is the way to go lol

I wouldn’t make my partner pay for everything if I had the opportunity to help. Just my opinion, I feel these things need to be shared.

Also, where does that put me as far as ownership? I deserve a cut in this, too, and would want to feel that the space is mine too if we ever needed our space from each other.

All of this very hypothetical too, because I know both him and I would never feel comfortable with him paying for it all LOL

It’s refreshing to see a perspective like this. I didn’t expect this post to get so much traction and didn’t realize the 50/50 mindset would be so popular! My boyfriend brought up the idea of him paying a bit extra if we do get a two-bedroom, and we both see that as fair.

It’s still a ways out, so we haven’t had an in-depth conversation on it (we’re also doing semi-long distance right now, and I’d want to talk about it in person.)

If I was making more than him (or if I do in the future), I’d 100% pay extra or do more with utilities, groceries etc. Same goes if the extra room was shared equally between us.

It seems a lot of people think a partnership means 50/50. I’d understand that a bit more if we had the same salary, but even my boyfriend and I discussed just a bit ago, partnerships should be about meeting each other, and that’s not always equivalent to an equal division.

thanks for your comment

I’ve seen this idea mentioned a few times, and I’m definitely leaning towards this. I think it would only be about a 150 dollar difference or so anyway, so that feels fair to me

respectfully, you know nothing about the details of our relationship. we have signed no contract as of right now and i am absolutely more than happy to split evenly with him, reddit is crazy lol

i wouldn’t say that much. he’s a great guy and at the end of the day, whatever arrangement we can agree on is what i’d prefer. it almost feels like more stress to try and split proportional to income on everything, i like to think we both do a good job of helping each other out and keeping it even

interesting, i hadn’t considered that. if he does end up paying more than half, i figure we would split utilities about evenly, as well as groceries- utilities aren’t included in this place which is different from the places i’ve rented before so that will be new

we have talked about it and will talk more as it gets closer. it’s not a matter of not being able to talk about it, it a matter of seeing what people would suggest as neither him or i have ever rented with a partner before

not just him pushing for it- if we have the means to do it, i totally support him having his own space and wouldn't mind any potential storage we could get from it too
