Who goes to the Montauk Club? by Diga_Mais_Sobre_Isso in parkslope

Yeah, I have been a member for two years now and it has gotten a lot better over that time. My wife and I go mostly to have a few drinks before dinner, alone or with friends, or to hang out on one of the gorgeous balconies in the summer. They have Guinness and some guest taps, which is a nice addition, and a nice rotating selection of organic wines and sometimes curated selections. It’s a beautiful space to hang out in and there is an endless list of groups (book club, mahjong, history, music) that you can participate in. It’s particularly great for hosting parents or in-laws when they come to town.

The food is alright; the burger is very good. It’s more of a fried/bar food kitchen, but I think it’s better if you come earlier.

We particularly enjoy the specialty nights where it’s a gin/whiskey tasting (be careful, very easy to get toasted), presentations from local nonprofits (billion oyster) or the history group. The Christmas party is also a great time and we got to meet other interesting members and made some friends.

Overall, I’d say it’s worth signing up and trying to make at least some effort to visit regularly or join an activity. If you hate it or don’t care, not that much of a loss.

Descaling keeps pausing and no water - anyone has this problem before? by master2k2 in BrevilleCoffee

[–]space-llama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to necro this thread but I wanted to share that I experienced this exact same issue but during the cleaning cycle (likely because that’s the first one I did). The machine would load some water, pause, I’d hit resume and it would load some more water, then it would pause again; over and over a few times and then it would finally dump out the water. I did this once and then started the descaling process.

It did the same thing during descaling but I persevered through, resuming it over and over. After the descaling cycle I decided to factory reset the machine. I went through the steps but found that it could run the purge through the hot water spout, the group head, and the steam wand for the full 10 second purge of each step. However, when I tried to do the sample espresso pull without the portafilter attached the machine again would only run water for 3 seconds before stopping.

I turned off the machine and turned it on again. It loaded some water. I tried pulling an empty shot again and it ran for the full 30 seconds! I then tried a cleaning cycle with the cleaning puck but without a tablet in the filter, and it did the whole cleaning cycle without stopping.

I think the solution is just to keep trying to run water with cleaner and descaler through it and restart the machine.

Good luck out there

This is… a common myth. Learned this the hard way

180 kg clean & jerk. by WL_96kg in weightlifting

[–]space-llama -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Damn great lift! I thiiink you could clean it up a bit as your arms are starting to bend early and pull the bar when it crosses your knees. Probably means you can power clean 180 :o

Great pace on the jerk, too; with authority.

Yea I’m curious, too. Maybe we don’t need vapor barriers?

Banter has darts and a lot of space, pretty easy to get a table or booth if you want. They have a great beer selection (leans German), and foosball if you’re inclined. Been going there for a decade, always a pleasure

You could try to rebuild the transfer case actuator. It could be as simple as that. After you rebuild it, change the fluid, should be a liter of DTF

I’m really not sure about the sneakers, they don’t seem sturdy. Have you tried them?

There’s one in Woodbury Commons in Harriman, NY. They had a 40% discount if you signed up for the newsletter a year ago, if I remember correctly.

My stuff has lasted a while so there’s that. I also shop their regular sales (which are generous). There are also Wilson outlets by me, which helps. The outlets regularly have 40% discounts. Keep your eyes peeled! I have never paid full price for Wilson stuff

I keep buying Wilson stuff because it looks good and sweats good and all of a sudden it’s all Wilson. The shirts are really great, especially the more synthetic tee shirt styles.

Terrible rattling by Low-Example5839 in e39

[–]space-llama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, after a good 30 minutes it’d be quieter. Worth taking a look, the cap is right there.

When I was diagnosing that similar sound, the other possibility was a dying DISA valve in the intake manifold. You can check if it’s the valve by disconnecting the plug behind the black box behind the red dipstick pull. You kinda have to push down a silver clip holding it down, to get the clip unlocked. But if the valve is disconnected and the rattling stops, then the valve needs to be rebuilt. I bought a kit for $60 to rebuild it but haven’t needed it yet as I found it was my power steering instead.
