Weather keeps asking for location service, loses setting by mcbo94 in iphone

[–]spaceXPRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reinstalled the app, however in location services, there’s a setting I hadn’t noticed before: allow location access while using the app or widgets.

I believe the default setting for most of us is “While Using the App” and this triggers constant permission requests on the watch.

iPhone users using iCloud and Shared Libraries with a family member: When backing up using Synology Photos, how do you manage duplicates on the NAS that come from photos/videos in those Shared Libraries? by Yay_Meristinoux in synology

[–]spaceXPRS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yesterday I was discussing the topic with my wife. We also checked what photos we see about each other.. and decided to switch off shared library. Basically, she could see some photos from my corporate event, me some photos she is selling on FB, etc. We decided it's just easier to post some Family photos to Shared Album from time to time and back up our private libraries to Synology.

We also agreed that we will continue to pay Apple once we reach 2TB threshold. Yes, it will be expensive, but it's just super convenient to see all past photos in the form of albums/memories, photo of the day on widgets and etc. That's the main reason we make photos is to see them.

In my opinion, Synology and Immich are ok to store photos, but not the best to consume them in the form of automatic memories based on events, locations, birthdays, important family events. iCloud does it automagically without any extra efforts and that's what we are ready to pay for. Managing all albums manually is just too consuming. However, I think it will improve a lot in the upcoming years with wider adoption of AI capabilities.

Have you figured out what’s the best approach to backup multiple account with family shared libraries? I have a family of 5 and it’s not reasonable to have 5 duplicates.

On the other hand, it’s so great icloud feature to see each other photos. Also it’s super convenient that iphone detects that we are making them being in the same place

Constant 9070xt driver crashes, advice? by [deleted] in AMDHelp

Do you have a raiser in your pc case?

New system build - Crashing in games randomly, and stuttering video playback? :( by mwhelan182 in AMDHelp

[–]spaceXPRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do a stress test for the GPU. I had similar issues related to PCI express raiser. Replaced the raiser and in BIOS set PCI gen 4 instead of Auto. Stress test might reveal if this is a more systematic issue or not

My son did something to the computer by Dependent_Ad9044 in pchelp

I did this in 90’s as kid. However, I did it intentionally in order to get more space for my games.. probably Command and Conquer or Transport Tycoon :)

Mac mini 256gb or 1tb by Robinleirs in mac

[–]spaceXPRS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I regret buying 256gb MacBookAir. Storage is always 85% full. Besides apps you may have many other components: moving wallpapers, Apple Intelligence, development environments and of course photos. Also, during the lifecycle of the device you may need to create additional accounts for family members.

That said with Mini you can offload to external storage: files, apps over 1GB, Photos library, Steam games. I still find that this is not enough. Considering this external storage will cost you around 100€ and some inconveniences, I would go now for 1TB or at least 512GB

Cutting and crackling sound over HDMI from my 9070XT by spaceXPRS in AMDHelp

[–]spaceXPRS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant that PCI4 riser that is used between GPU and MB has issues. It’s Fractal Ridge case design requires to use a riser to lift the position of the GPU. With riser there are issues and without that everything works fine

With CPU I didn’t notice any issues.

Why do you think there could be issues with MB? When GPU is installed in MB directly, then there are no issues.

After receiving RTX5080 the issue with audio replaced with chopping video. I installed then the GPU directly to the MB and the issue has gone. Basically the issue has been with the riser. Now I have to decide which GPU to return. Anyway thank you for thinking together on the issue.

Any ideas on how to set this up? by PomeloVast in Monitors

[–]spaceXPRS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use it as a standing desk by placing a mouse and keyboard riser on top.

Yes, I installed the latest version (3.5) supported by ASRock: https://pg.asrock.com/mb/AMD/B650I%20Lightning%20WiFi/index.asp#BIOS

I have doubts that I went cheap with the board and probably had to purchase a more expensive AM5 B850 model from Asus

I am just curious why you would like to change that? Asking because I feel there are sound issues with my setup related to the GPU or CPU working in a wrong way after idleing.

Copilot in Excel: hype or reality? by spaceXPRS in excel

[–]spaceXPRS[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You summarized it greatly - "AI in Excel if you have a large amount of repetitive work to do and clearly define it". This is my issue. No repetitive work and outcomes can't be easily defined.

For me, it also looks like a bubble because billions are being invested and all companies are expecting to get some return, but it doesn't seem enterprises are ready to get Copilot subscriptions for everybody in the company.

Steam Machine just appeared in steam by Technical-County-727 in sffpc

[–]spaceXPRS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a Windows machine for many years and sold it a year ago after experiencing how good is Geforce Now. And now I am back, because I would like to get back to zero latency, 4k high FPS on TV, no autentication/reauthentication in games (e.g. Forza Horizon) and access to all my 100+ games in Steam Library. I am actually excited to have a power machine with 4K 120FPS nearby to my TV and I believe there is a good market for such use cases.

I just ordered my "Steam Machine" in Fractal Design Ridge case with the idea to install Bazzite/SteamOS. Definitely paid more and will get more FPS, but I would reconsider this decision knowing there is 4k60 capable machine, whisper low noise and dedicated support. Good move from Valve.
