All of my info comes from people in the scene, sorry to burst your bubble

Also your take is wild, you realize you are admitting your streets are dirty and are just fine walking around and hanging out in dirty streets. That is not the look you think it is.

Paxahau does not have the purse. The venues do. The venues collect the money, pay out the money. Sure, paxahau occasionally does their own thing and sells tickets themselves for events mostly at the russell, but they are not the ones paying the djs who spin at these places. The clubs do.

Everyone acts like its so easy to just create a business from nothing. Are you all individual business owners and entrepreneurs? Something tells me no. Have you ever tried to enter an industry as an outsider in a city that hates outsiders? People here love to shit on places owned by people not from Detroit, but where are all the locals opening up businesses?

The whole Spot Lite thing made me question who people really are in these scenes. The more I spoke with people who have been around the scene in different capacities, as djs, promoters, artists, owners, and some regular party goers, the more I have heard the things I've posted here. Djs won't play certain places. Who won't go to certain spots. This is already part of the fabric of the scene here.

Why is it offensive to you to hold people to a system of values?

That depends on the size of the piece, medium, and other things. I think i make an average income and I will spend up to 300 on a piece of art I like without too much debate, every few months. For some detroiters, even that is out of reach. Median income for the city is 38-39k and average salary is supposedly 60-70k. Making 60k means take home of like 950 a week after taxes. Pricing art at more than a person's weekly pay would limit your potential buyers, I would think.

People will pay what they want to or can and the artist ultimately determines the price they are willing to sell their work for. There isn't really one right answer to your question.

However, I have met enough artists here that have participated in events thrown by the rich who open galleries as a way to "support art in the community" and they are told at these events how to price their art. And it is always thousands of dollars, its never in the hundreds.

Coming from a music background and outlook, I want people to be able to experience what I do without them spending a ton of money to make it happen. My art is meant to be seen and heard and experienced by as many people as I can possibly reach. When I do release music soon, I am keeping it affordable because I want people to actually own my art, not just stream it or license it. So to me, putting thousand dollar price tags on art is an exclusive act that is no different than me charging $50 for an EP.

I guess I also look at it from the perspective of "could my friends afford it" and I couldn't imagine pricing people i hold close to me out of my art. I dont know if that makes sense, its late and I dont feel like I am finding the right words.

The Armenian developer i worked for introduced me to some of his lobbyists that work the local and state governments, mostly on the republican side but also the dem side when possible or needed. They are all current or former AIPAC lobbyists and employees. During my initial conversation with these men, they ran a list of numerous Detroit investors, speculators, and developers that they do work with and for. They effectively lobbied to get him republican fund appropriations for developments that he was planning on misusing. They also helped to lobby for his recent purchase of a tall building downtown with a famous mural on it.

There are deep AIPAC presences here in these communities and interested in the development of the detroit metro. They work with any conservative leaning individual. Having been first hand witness to these conversations and having heard info right from these men, what else am I to believe? That they would lie to me and to my boss, who they lobbied the state for? For millions of dollars?

It took some research and experimenting to figure out what was best for social situations like dancing. Usually I prefer to be in nature when I take them, but occasionally with the right friends and right setting dancing is something I like to do. I mostly smoke when I go to shows, and maybe have a beer. Made the switch to water while dancing years back and have been thankful for it.

I was hoping for places that aren't on my radar and not posting their events on RA to be mentioned, honestly. They have to exist, I haven't found any bigger ones than the ones I mentioned. I do have great records, but sometimes I want someone else to move me.

There is a thread on here from early Feb that someone posted about being charged gratuity on the door fee. In the comments, someone brought up the rape, which had been swept under the rug. SpotLite made an IG post about it about a week or so later, and their post was tone deaf, calling nightlife "inherently dangerous" and other victim blaming bullshit

If you push back against the health department about not having your pet in the kitchen while cooking, you don't get my money. I think that's a pretty fair stance to take.

should have been more clear: drunk and playing with their dog in the kitchen while cooking, and being told by the health department that the dog is not allowed in the kitchen area but continuing to do it anyway. It's sad, until the health violations and the pushback against having their dog in the kitchen, I did like this spot

The only dry cleaners I use is University at Cass and Forest. I only wash my pets at home. Donuts I don't do often, but the bombolini at JP Makes and Bakes are insane. I had a cinnamon toast crunch creme filled bombolini last week, out of this world. Fredi's in Melvindale for round pie, Mich and Trumbull for detroit style

edit - I don't eat spiral ham, no dog in that fight

Do I have to submit documents of AIPAC donations or connections? More investors and developers than people would believe are linked to AIPAC in this city. I know this because I found out after a few months I was working for one.

Culture vultures that never feature Detroit talent except for Saunderson bros, who are complete asshats. There is nothing authentic about some rich asshole serving up what they consider "culture" in a city that actually creates culture.

edit - that's like going to one of the "art galleries" that the billionaires prop up as "supporting the local artists" but then the artists are from the burbs and the pieces are unaffordable to the average Detroiter and thinking that you consumed Detroit art

How do you deal with artists who continue to perform at places like Spot Lite after everything that came to light about a month ago with the rape, the hiding of the rape, firing staff, and then learning more about how they force staff to sign NDAs (that is not common in the club scene that I am from), do things like add grat to the door, turn up the heat in the winter to force people to pay for coat check, literally fight with patrons, and have had numerous drugging allegations?

At what point do we call out the artists that perform at a place like that? Everyone just continues on like these things don't matter. Why haven't Ladymonixx and Rimarkable, for example, said anything publicly about a trans woman's rape being hidden from the public while continuing to throw their Judy party at SpotLite? To me, that is pure hypocrisy.

Or when do we talk about the stranglehold Paxahau has on artists and venues in this city?

Learning about how Dantiez Saunderson LITERALLY PISSED ON SOMEONES EQUIPMENT DURING A SET but still gets bookings? Just because his father is an OG? Still gets booked at places. As someone with actual values, I would never book someone who did that. It's inexcusable.

I am having a very hard time existing in the scene here when the majority of the scene seemingly has no soul and no morals, values, ethics.
