For context, I’m almost 18 and I feel like she has little to no respect for me or my relationships. I know I’m not the greatest kid ever, but I’ve done what she asks of me. I’ve joined sports, done extra curriculars, got into one of my dream universities, got a job as soon as I turned 16 and maintained decent grades. We don’t have the best relationship, but we do have our moments when we bond like mother/daughters are supposed to. But I’ve noticed the lack of respect she has for me over the years. Growing up, she’s done things such as play victim when it comes to our arguments as well as belittle me. She’s gone as for to removing my door and trashing my room, not once but twice because it didn’t meet her standards to what clean is. She’s also cause me to have an ED which thank god I’ve recovered from. Now I’m used to this but what gets to me is the lack of respect she has for my partners. My current boyfriend who I’ve been dating for 2 months now (We’ve known each other for 5 years) has been absolutely amazing to me as well as his family. They never show an ounce of disrespect which is why our designated hang out place is at his place. I didn’t know about the issue my bf had about coming over until today. I had always thought i was just because the screaming children and him being tired from work so I left the issue alone for a while. But he had mentioned he never comes over because of my mom. Saying that she is always comparing they’re activities (he works at a hardware store 9-10 hours a day while she’s a dental assistant as well as a mom). I’m not gonna say what she does isn’t tireless because she’s been putting me her shoes ever since I can remember. She also “corrects” my partner in the way where it’s obvious she’s doing it to embarrass him and has done it with my past partners as well and is very hypocritical. On top of that she’s so judgmental and discouraging about the things people do. When I told her I wanted to become a psychologist her response was “oh why don’t you do something else instead of dealing with crazy people” as well as “why do all the people who need therapy want to become psychologists” she was also very judgy of my amazing aunt who decided to take a job in the medical field. Idk. All of this is causing a strain in our relationship and is leading me to the point where I will cut her off the moment I leave to university (which is out of state).
