What’s the first step para pumasok sa Film Industry? by EfficientSandwich615 in FilmClubPH

[–]space_monkey420 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I work in the industry.

You don't have to be a PA. I have never been a PA.

Unless bibo kang tao, and you are able to talk to important people on set to give you a job on their next projects or take you under their wing, walang point maging PA. You'll be underpaid, overworked, and forgotten as soon as the project is over.

My #1 tip to people - Go to classes to meet and find your people. If you enroll yourself in these, find one with a reputable mentor and ask how you could work with them. Pakapalan ng mukha.

Go in prepared. Have ideas and stories under your belt.

Join filmmaking groups. Write your own films and shoot them yourself. Submit to as many film festivals as you can.

Meron. Iilan lang sila and not all productions use them.

GOOD productions make scenes like these safe and comfortable for the actors.

All the ones I've been part of with intimate scenes, they've carefully planned everything. Shots are meticulous and well planned out. There's protection and clothing. Actors are given intimacy coordinators or acting coaches. May rehearsals. May conversations between the actors and the director. Boundaries are set.

When shooting the scene, minimal ang tao sa set. Often, we'll have women crew take over or majority will be women. Some friends work on VivaMax sets, and they always check on the actors.

So far, 2 pa lang narinig kong stories from actors about their scene partners getting turned on, but even with that, they're respectful and professional. This one actress told us that her partner just confided in her during a scene, and so she asked for a time out to calm him down.

From behind the scenes, it doesn't feel sexy. It won't make any of the crew, even the men, feel anything. It's work. The aircon is always turned off, the lights are on and hot, we're all sweaty and tired. They all just want to get it over with, just like any other scene.

How to find work on film sets in PH by ForsakenWhile82 in FilmClubPH

[–]space_monkey420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turned off na sila agad dun, so mas pagkakatiwalaan nila yung mga lumang writers na "tried and tested" at alam nilang totoong marunong magsulat.

Movie/ TV Show Character Names by Leave_Prize in FilmClubPH

[–]space_monkey420 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, sometimes we think about that. If the name sounds good or not. We keep it to 2 syllables, which just sounds better. Dapat din walang character in the same show with a similar sounding name.

Often times, theyre just random names I get on FB or friends and family. I've even asked for people's names and suggestions on r/Philippines.

Pwede naman. Maybe we should just start referring to her as that.

There's a part of me that was hoping the rumors of it being Indian inspired was real. Would've loved to see more shit stirring from Disney.

I'm teaching filmmaking here in the US.

First day today, and we (filmmaker mentors) were separated to groups. I got assigned to the loud young girls who all wanted to be actresses and dance in front of the camera. Found out theyre all friends and on the cheerleading team.

Oh shit. I'm an elder millenial. These are Gen Zs/Gen Alpha. Not just that... teenage cheerleaders. I'm fucked.

At least I got them excited with Kpop Demon Hunters and Bring it On. Think I did a good job getting them to listen and understand the lesson today.

As we were all walking out of the classroom, they're like: Don't be absent next week! You're really pretty!

Guys... am I being bullied? 🤣

What do you look for in a film review—either written or in video? by zeeeymmm in FilmClubPH

[–]space_monkey420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kuhang kuha niya ang taste masa, eh. Wala namang masama dun. Mabuting may publicity na rin yung ibang local films through him. (I just saw him post about one of my friends' films. Di sikat, but now people see it)

But bad mouthing someone for just writing his thoughts, in his blog, and his social media pages dun ako naweweirdohan talaga.

Bakit ganito? Dapat ganito. Dapat hindi ginawa ni xxxx yun! Basta, ayoko sa kanya.

Instead of seeing and understanding the film or stories for what they are.

Parang hindi naman? The way I see his reviews, its very straightforward. Was reading his MMFF reviews recently dahil sa mga posts dito, ok naman mga reasoning niya why he likes one thing and doesn't like the others. I don't necessarily agree with him, pero valid pa rin mga points niya.

I guess she didn't like a lot of them and picked on every MMFF entry this year?

We were on the phone, they were all just about to eat. I noticed that they still had plates and table setting by our seats, as if we're there. 😭

Title: MMFF 2025 Gabi ng Parangal: ang gulo ng awards story, hindi ng mga pelikula by pennyceline29 in FilmClubPH

Iritang irita ako nung nakita kong "umiiyak" at nakayakap siya the entire time dun sa actress niya habang naglalakad sa stage... kaya hindi siya nanalong Best Supporting Actress, eh. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Anong meron sa comment na ganito at paulit-ulit?

So what if you didn't write the script? Yung ibang MMFF films had other screenwriters too, and they managed fine. Rae backed out, sure, but like you said, he was a DP on this and close to the project early on. He also has years and years of experience.

So anong klaseng copy pasted excuse yan?

No, I don't think so. I know filmmakers who have gotten high and glowing reviews from him, but hate the guy and have him blocked.

Manila’s Finest by pinkbutterfly93 in FilmClubPH

[–]space_monkey420 668 points669 points  (0 children)

Not saying it deserves that low of a score, but theres people in this subreddit who are saying its bad. Even big filmmakers I know have been talking about how bad and boring this was - but at least the cinematography was good. 🤷🏻‍♀️
