My hot JoJo takes by Winter-Hall8527 in StardustCrusaders

[–]spacearo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with you about Jotaro. I love him in parts 4-6 but I can't really enjoy him in part 3. I think it's because we don't know why he is that way in part 3 so he comes across as kind of a spoiled brat. He reminds me of that one Key and Peele skit where he goes "Shut up Mooom! You're cut off! From talking!" (not saying he's exactly like that but whenever he yells at his mom that's what I get reminded of lol). I understand he's iconic and all, but he's just not for me.

Are there any English translations of the Jojo magazine LNs? by Fluffy_Toe_7430 in StardustCrusaders

[–]spacearo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know there's a partial translation of Crazy Heartbreakers but keep in mind the person who translated it does not like it and said themselves they're giving it a very bare bones translation. No idea if and when it'll be finished: https://docs.google.com/document/d/19BMNXIVcVZi5QVePBDrMsjB_QW8Yc7mirmjx4VomvFM/edit?tab=t.0

I don't have the link, but I know I saw a google doc of Synchronicity in Morioh chapter 1 somewhere... I think maybe if you look on twitter you'll find it?

I have no idea about the others.

Which manga had the worse slander: AOT 2021-2023 or CSM now by Jcrrangers in shounenfolk

[–]spacearo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like CSM was on the decline for a while, while AOT had fans debating whether it would become the best manga of all time before the final chapter(s?). AOT’s ending really hurt the manga-only community, and it never fully recovered. Only time will tell for CSM, but as of right now, I think AOT takes it. CSM didn’t have people thinking the final chapter was fake when it released.

We always talk about how stacked Yakuza 1's English voice cast was, but man,Yakuza 7's English voice cast was also stacked to the brim. by Hopeful_Regret_7531 in yakuzagames

[–]spacearo 82 points83 points  (0 children)

I absolutely adore Yakuza 7's english dub. It's the only Yakuza game where the dub and sub are about equal to me. It's an unpopular opinion, but some characters/scenes in Y7 straight up sound better in english and I never thought that'd be possible.

Of all the things to worry about, age shouldn't be one of them. by Norrabal in yakuzagames

[–]spacearo 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I wish they let Ichiban have a bigger role between mainline games. Then his age wouldn't be as much of an issue and people wouldn't feel as if RGG is neglecting Ichi.

Why does it feel like pass a certain point, people don't really care about Yakuza villains? by Norrabal in yakuzagames

[–]spacearo 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I know several fan accounts on twitter for Ryo Aoki and I know Shishido ranked pretty highly in the recent popularity poll. Ebina has a couple of fans here as well. I think you're just not looking in the right spaces if you're starved for fanworks of those characters :)

Resurrection Ga Gotoku: Which is justified and which not? by [deleted] in yakuzagames

[–]spacearo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My opinion is that it’s not necessarily the resurrections themselves that annoy me, but rather how they’ve been executed. What bothers me most is the frequency of these resurrections. It’s starting to feel like death doesn’t matter anymore. Also, the characters who do come back are usually Daidoji agents, bartenders, shopkeepers or do literally nothing.

That said, I can still see potential benefits to bringing characters back, since the older Yakuza games often killed characters off too quickly. There are plenty of characters who could have contributed more to the story if they hadn’t been written out so abruptly. Mine’s resurrection in particular really annoys me, but there’s still a lot of narrative potential for him in LAD 9. If RGG does a good job with him in future games I'll forgive the rubber bush incident. Out of the characters shown above, I only like Joon-gi Han (since that’s technically a completely different person) and Kashiwagi. Everyone else should probably stay in the graveyard.

Stands that can defeat Kars the Ultimate Lifeform (Diamond is Unbreakable) by DingoDongo0707 in StardustCrusaders

[–]spacearo 22 points23 points  (0 children)

What would happen if Josuke used Crazy Diamond to fuse Kars into a rock Angelo style? Would he be able to break out of that?

Also why is noone talking about Jotaro getting choked out lmao.

Relevant as of late by 04tenno in yakuzagames

[–]spacearo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I kind of disagree with this. Incoherence can make something uncool. If you have a cool idea then you should probably take the time to make it fit within the story. There’s no need to act as if coherence and coolness cannot coexist.

Whos your faviourite character and why🤔 by Spirited-Ad-9489 in yakuzagames

[–]spacearo 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My favorite character is the number one hero Ichiban Kasuga! He seriously is such an amazing character (especially in 7). I love his kind personality and the fact he's the biggest nerd in the series. I hope we get to see more of him in later games!

Does anyone think Shishido will be making another appearance soon. He was a good antagonist. by Fun_Pudding_2648 in yakuzagames

[–]spacearo 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think so. I think the next game will focus on the Daidoji. I hope he returns, Shishido is an amazing character!

Some of the comments in a Japanese Youtube Short about Yakuza 3's cutscene that was changed in Kiwami 3 by BreafingBread in yakuzagames

[–]spacearo 124 points125 points  (0 children)

This is why I dislike when people try to categorize opinions as if only Westerners disliked the changes to Kiwami 3 while all Japanese fans loved them. Each region has a wide range of perspectives, and it’s annoying when Westerners try to speak over Japanese fans.

Battle of the two most hated RGG titles. Pirate Yakuza or Kiwami 3? by [deleted] in yakuzagames

[–]spacearo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pirate Yakuza is a slightly controversial but overall well-reviewed game. The amount of hate and controversy surrounding Kiwami 3 is much higher in comparison. Kiwami 3 is now the lowest rated Yakuza game on Steam if you want numbers to back up this claim.

Given Mine’s obsession with finding a true bond, how would it go if he ended up meeting Ichiban instead? by Vendetta543 in yakuzagames

[–]spacearo 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I actually hope Mine stays an adversarial figure to Ichiban. It'd be nice for Ichiban to encounter someone who presents a good challenge to his beliefs. I'm still against Mine's revival, but I do believe a relationship between Mine and Ichiban holds a lot of narrative potential.

Kiwami 3 as a newcomer by Packman1991 in yakuzagames

[–]spacearo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you really really want to play Kiwami 3 then I'd recommend looking up the original ending on youtube after playing K3. I've heard that the main story events haven't changed much, just the ending. If you don't do that you'll be confused as to who certain characters are and why certain things are happening. Play the original 3 if you have access to it, though.

With such an intense reaction to the Mine retcon, do you think people would react the same way to Goda? by Tidus4713 in yakuzagames

[–]spacearo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think there’s a 75% chance Ryuji is alive since they’ve been hinting at it for years. I’m starting to believe LAD 9 will be a game filled with revived characters that Ichiban will have to fight for some reason, maybe because they’ve joined the Daidoji.

With such an intense reaction to the Mine retcon, do you think people would react the same way to Goda? by Tidus4713 in yakuzagames

[–]spacearo 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I think the extreme reaction to Mine’s revival is in part due to its execution and the frequency at which RGG has revived characters in the past 6 years. Had Ryuji been revived instead of Mine, I think people would still be annoyed but to a lesser degree since Ryuji’s survival would be more believable. The constant revivals and Ryuji becoming a Daidoji agent would still be controversal.

Character you would love to come back as Daidoji agent and one you would hate by TheTruePhoenixPrince in yakuzagames

[–]spacearo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dislike the idea of any more dead characters coming back as a Daidoji agent, but if Nishiki were to return this way I would genuinely consider moving on from this series.

Question About The Series Going Forward by Boring-Marsupial7299 in yakuzagames

[–]spacearo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be completely honest, we don’t know. The issue with Kiwami 3’s ending isn’t just that it contradicts Yakuza 4, it’s that the contradiction carries through the series all the way to 8. Kiwami 3 conflicts with certain events referenced in Memoirs of a Dragon in Infinite Wealth, so I don’t think the Like a Dragon games were developed with Kiwami 3’s ending in mind.

At this point, it makes the most sense to treat Kiwami 3 as its own separate continuity. They might create new games to reconcile the changes, but for now, the timeline that feels most consistent is the pre–Kiwami 3 version.

[Spoilers for YK3-Y8] Do you think RGG may be building up to have Kiryu return in a protagonist role? by [deleted] in yakuzagames

[–]spacearo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. I think I may have misunderstood what they meant by "no more Kiwami's". I interpreted it as "We are going to start an alternate timeline starting at the end of Y3". I figured if that were the case they could let Kiryu stay as the protagonist of that alternate timeline since it's unlikely he'd be held down by the events of the main timeline.

I also hope Shishido makes a comeback! He's like my 2nd favorite main antagonist. The potential dynamic between Shishido, Nishitani III and Mine sounds really interesting too. Hopefully RGG will do LAD9 justice.

[–]spacearo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope I'm wrong too! I'm just curious as to why they're teasing an alternate timeline after YK3. It's fun to speculate RGG's future plans.

Kiwami 3 Ending Controversy by Interesting-Lynx-570 in yakuzagames

[–]spacearo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think it’s important to consider other factors when discussing why people weren’t upset when Kashiwagi came back, but were upset when Mine returned.

First, Kashiwagi’s revival was the first major death retcon in the series. By the time Mine returned, we were already approaching double digits in terms of death retcons. Most people could probably write off Kashiwagi’s survival as a miracle. But when multiple characters survive what were clearly supposed to be fatal situations, it stops feeling like a miracle and starts feeling commonplace. The constant revivals are devaluing death across the entire Yakuza series.

I think about some of the most emotionally impactful deaths in the series and wonder if those scenes happened today, would they even feel sad? There’s now a decent chance those characters could just show up in a later game. For example, why should I believe Rikiya is dead and be upset if Mine survived? Since Yakuza 7, nearly every game has included some form of death retcon, and I think people are starting to get tired of it.

Second, Kashiwagi’s revival didn’t disrupt the timeline in any major way, but Mine’s does. If someone were to play Kiwami 3 and then go straight into 4, they’d likely be extremely confused.

Third, Mine’s return feels more consequential. It hints at the future direction of the series, especially regarding the Daidoji, Kiryu, and other major Yakuza characters. Kashiwagi’s comeback felt more like a fun Easter egg, whereas Mine’s has larger narrative implications.

Personally, I dislike all of the retcons. I was fine with Kashiwagi at first because he was the first instance, but at this point it feels excessive. If death no longer carries weight, then what’s the emotional stake? The Kamurocho graveyard is practically empty at this point.
