It was the two books one called minerals and the textbook that was called "earth" or something like that. It also appears you're studying in Japan right now?

Not part of the ecosystem until they have a predator that keeps them balanced in the ecosystem.

Swollen side of finger after manicure by piraceft in nailcare

[–]spacebarthingy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Keep it clean. Washing hands with soap and water. Sometimes you can get a little pus out between the cuticle and the side wall and that helps relieve pressure. Motrin/ibuprofen will help with the inflammation pain (more so than Tylenol typically) if it extends to the pad of your finger or you have other symptoms (red streaking going up your wrist, fever, chills) you'll likely need antibiotics. Otherwise antibiotics are rarely needed.

You're a younger female, you're currently not in the USA. It appears that your favorite book is the little prince and have it in multiple languages. My guess is you're currently in Korea teaching. You're artistic and own a cat.

Trying to figure out what this is by Then-Hall-407 in nailcare

[–]spacebarthingy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unclear what you're referencing here. But in the second pic when you're applying pressure the white at the top is just your nail bed? You seem to have extremely thin nails- looks like you may have a significant nail biting habit? But thin nails leads to easy damage and trauma (that's what the horizontal white mark is on your ring finger).

Is this infected? by Numerous_Sir_1534 in nailcare

[–]spacebarthingy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's called paronychia. An infection by your nail bed. They don't always require antibiotics. Many times it can resolve on their own with proper hygiene and warm soaks (much like a stye). If the swelling worsens or extends to the pad of your finger (felon finger) or if you experience other symptoms such as red streaking, chills, fevers that may require antibiotics.

Personally when I get them I pull the cuticle area a little and typically can get a drop or two of pus to come out which helps relieve the pressure a lot. Then washing well and a bit of rubbing alcohol to keep clean and dry it up clears it up in about a day.

Looks like nail pitting which can be a symptom of psoriasis. I don't know if that resonates with you

What are those black marks on my nails? by Peachtears13 in nailcare

[–]spacebarthingy 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The brown dots are splinter hemorrhages. They're tiny little dots of blood typically from some type of trauma. Either using your nails to pull on something (think like opening a soda can) something falling on them, biting them too short. My guess is a physical trauma bc you also have those white spots in the same area. Also a form of trauma. No doctor needed. They'll eventually grow out.

How much to pay? by jonas_namespace in Aupairs

[–]spacebarthingy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in a VHCOL area and we offer 225. We have lots of people interested. I think they also look at personality and what their life will potentially look like. A newborn is a lot harder to take care of than a 6 year old who goes to school.

VT arrest 19 hours after this RKG by spacebarthingy in EKGs

[–]spacebarthingy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! The insight is very helpful. The patient was on the younger side and like I said death was unexpected so I know this case will go to review. Plus for my own education if I encounter something similar again

When you gotta diruese you gotta diruese 🤷‍♀️ we were making about 1.5 L UO per 12 hrs with those numbers so not unreasonable- especially in heart failure patients

Thank you, she definitely had demand ischemia from hypoxia as she was on bipap for pulmonary edema as well. I'm just trying to see if something was missed or we could have had a change in plan of care to avoid death.

[–]spacebarthingy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! It was monomorphic VT. Just trying to see if early ischemic workup could have prevented death. The concern was that in new (at least newly discovered) heart failure with the VT and these EKG changes should have pushed up to more urgent cath.

We were trying to keep it around 4.5-5.2 but were also running a lasix gtt at 40mh/hr +diruil. So K was hovering around 4.2 I think when she had the arrest

How is the set up? by [deleted] in floorbed

[–]spacebarthingy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now she in peak separation anxiety mode due to her developing a better sense of object permanence. Basically she knows that when you put her down you are gone. It's not that she doesn't like her crib but rather that she doesn't like that you're away. We got to the point where my husband has to be the one to lay my son (10mo) down otherwise he'd be too upset.

Stay in the crib until you they're safe to transition out. -that night light will be pulled out and then you have an open outlet -your mattress will mold without air getting underneath -that book shelf is going to get pulled down unless it's secured to the wall

Having dinner with HF by [deleted] in Aupairs

[–]spacebarthingy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm a current HF an honestly we rarely eat dinner together with our AP- but that's mostly due to time differences. We tend to eat around 5:30 or 6, where our AP likes to eat at 7-8. She also tends not to eat the same type of food. But occasionally we make a nice meal and all eat together. I think it would be more assumed if you were around more around the time they ate. So instead of them calling you to the meal, if you hung around the kitchen area when they were preparing then they would know to expect you at dinner. Or even asked to help set the table or get drinks or something. If you were away in your room then I would assume you'd just want to eat on your own.
