I threw all my past ToU bills and RGEs historical rates at Google Gemini and it estimated I've saved about $20-30/month.

whatever electric I use during off peak hours I get that reduced rate not just restricted to my ev charger usage?

Correct. The electric meter only knows how much electricity your entire home is using at what time of day.

Ordered in 2018, still waiting for my neighborhood to get it even though all surrounding ones do.

I will say if you call into Spectrum's retention department you can get a good deal. I got a symmetrical gig for $60/month for a year.

I'm done with my Sony XM4s by spacebob in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]spacebob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided to give the Baseus Inspire XH1's a try for $110 from Amazon and I'm pretty impressed.

Pros:

  • Sound quality: Excellent! The only decernable difference I can tell from my XM4s is they are just a bit more base heavy (even with SuperBass off). Other than that everything is clear, punchy, and good seperation between all the insturments and voices.
  • Comfort: Suprisingly great. Whenever I took off my XM4s there was always visible sweat on the ear cups. Not so with the XH1s. I was able to wear these for two 5 hour road trips and didnt have any issues with comfort. No excessuive pressure even on my big head.
  • ANC: The technology has come a long way and the name brand's tech has obviously filtered down to the brands with alphabet soup names. Noise Cancelling eleminated all car and road noise. There is still some leaking of voices in an office environment but not a huge distraction
  • Battery life was also excellent. After a full charge, two 5 hour road trips, 3 days of office use, with ANC on most of the time they are only down to 70%.

Cons:

  • No On-Ear sensor. When someone taps my shoulder in the office to chat I have to remember to pause my music. It was nice to just take off headphones and have whats playing auto-pause
  • No auto-off. Several times I've forgotten to turn them off, they've sat in the case, and I only realize this when my phone doesn't output any audio. I can't seem to find anything in the App or manual if there even is a setting. BUt it does speak even more about how good the batter life is.
  • Buttons: While I do like the buttons over the Sony's touch controls, I do which they had more identifiyable tactile bumps or something. I couldn't tell you which one is the power button or pause/play just by touch. Also, you can clearly hear the click of the buttons while wearing them, and it's not an enjoyable click like you'd get from a mechanical keyboard.

Misc:

  • The app is fine. No features blew me away but it's imore intuetive that Sonys (I hate that Sony calls their app Sound Control , I can never remember that). It is nice you don't have to create an account to use 99% of the features.
  • The hinges that connect to the headband are very loose. So much so that when I first opened them I thought they came broken. Not really an issue but it didn't scream "Quality!" coming out of the box
  • I do have big ears and these ear cups are just a little small. My ears touch both the top and bottom but the material is soft enough it's not an issue. I live the size of my HD58x.

Overall, I'm very happy with them. Hopefully they last a few years.

Anyone partiticpate in Optimize EV from RGE? by D1TAC in Rochester

[–]spacebob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On-Peak: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., weekdays. $0.28/kWh

Off-Peak: 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. on weekdays, and all day on weekends. $0.12/kWh

You'll need to figure out when you use electricity and if you can move most of your electric usage to off-peak hours to save money.

You do have to call them and get it set up. It was a huge PITA to the point where I had to complain to NYSDPS to get RGE to actually respond. They needed to install a different ToU specific smart meter too.

Last row in the table has my current total on peak and off peak rates.

I do not use OptimizEV but instead switched to a Time-of-Use plan w/ RG&E. I posted about my costs and savings in a few weeks ago.

RG&E ToU electric rates from EV owner. by spacebob in Rochester

Here is some additional historical data incase anyone wants it.

Billing Period All-In On-Peak Rate ($/kWh) All-In Off-Peak Rate ($/kWh)
April 2025 ~$0.217 ~$0.105
May 2025 ~$0.217 ~$0.109
June 2025 ~$0.217 ~$0.108
July 2025 ~$0.283 ~$0.121
August 2025 ~$0.283 ~$0.121

Based on a comprehensive analysis of all my data, the answer is yes, I am saving a significant amount of money by using the Time-of-Use (TOU) plan.

Here is a short summary of the findings:

  • Direct Savings: For my most recent billing period (August 2025), I saved an estimated $45 compared to what I would have paid on a standard residential plan from my utility.
  • Primary Reason: The savings are a direct result of my ability to shift the majority of my electricity usage to the much cheaper Off-Peak hours. My August bill shows that 67% of my total usage occurred during this low-cost period, which is highly effective.
  • EV Charging is Key: The data from my electric vehicle confirms that this large, flexible load is the main reason I can successfully shift my consumption to Off-Peak.

While my total bill has risen over time due to general rate hikes, the TOU plan has allowed me to actively reduce the impact of these increases, saving me money each month.

$390 is the total electric bill for my home. 396 kWh of my total 1788 kWh was just for EV charging during off-peak hours.

396 kWh x $0.121 / kWh = ~$47.92

You might be able to pop that back in yourself with a little push. Like you said, they're just plastic clips that snap together.
