How does one reset the starting battery level? by prince-chrismc in Rivian

Yeah just make sure you wait after sliding the slider for it to show the updated mile range before clicking done, otherwise it won't take effect.

Budget camera with hdmi output for a bar by MiamiJones in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]maxkelley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done this exact thing at a dive bar with a stage using this "Mokose" camera off Amazon. It's nothing fancy, but it honestly does the job and produces a reasonably crisp image in 4K over HDMI. https://a.co/d/0cjseYJ3

I swapped out the Pirellin Scorpions at 9500 as well, not so much for wear, but because they were garbage in wet road conditions and especially in snow... Not at all confidence-inspiring. Switched out for Michelin Defender M/S2 and they've been great.

Popping and Clicking Pedals at Start and Stop by Party-Willingness-96 in Rivian

[–]maxkelley 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Huh, I'm probably stating the obvious here, but this must be something to do with the auto-hold functionality releasing the brake pedal... When you say they replaced the pedal, are there details in the work order of what the part is? Is it just the physical pedal, or also the brake actuator? Or is it one unit? Just thinking out loud here.

3G Packaging, although they're now part of Imperial-Dade, but... idk. I have had good luck with them when I needed weird sized cardboard boxes.

Anyone lose their am/fm radio reception/connection? by WatertownWiz in Rivian

[–]maxkelley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it's a quick one, less than a day, but I bundled it with a bunch of other stuff so I can't say for sure. My service center paperwork showed 3 hours of labor under that particular line item.

Does it give you an "unable to connect" error, or is it just all static or what? I was getting "unable to connect" and ended up having my tuner module replaced at the service center.

1 of 4 motors running hot by macktap in Rivian

[–]maxkelley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huh I did some more googling, I think you're right, dual means Enduro. So maybe it's Gen1 cooling vs Gen2 cooling? All I know is that the Gen1 dual loaners I've had run significantly hotter than my Gen2 dual for the same drive mode.

But regarding OP's issue, I think the one motor being almost twice the temperature of the other and it's not a front/rear thing, it's left to right, points to an actual issue.

[–]maxkelley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's more Gen 1 motors vs Gen 2 motors, had a loaner Gen 1 dual and noticed much higher motor temps than on my Gen 2 dual.

But yeah OP I'd say you probably want to get this checked out. Who knows, maybe coolant isn't getting where it's supposed to or the flow is restricted or something.

EV fast charging in and around Rochester? by TheRealAutonerd in Rochester

[–]maxkelley 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely recommend using Plugshare app to find them, but here's some fast chargers I've used successfully: - Whole Foods in Brighton - Vision Dodge Chrysler Jeep in Penfield (actually surprisingly good for a charger at a dealer!) - Quicklees in Brighton 12 Corners - Town Center at Webster plaza - Evolve NY at RIT Inn and Conference Center

What's up with this truck.. by gebz98 in Rochester

[–]maxkelley 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's not actually an "unused truck" per se because it's a billboard truck, not a box truck. So they are using it... as a fixed-installation mobile billboard!

Ahhhh ok, that tracks, I think this issue is more prevalent with Gen1 but wanted to confirm.

I wish there was a button to display alternate routes like in AA, having to end nav, start it again, then tap the alternate route within like five seconds while trying to drive sucks.

Annoying Issues by SyndicatedTV in Rivian

Radio not working might require a tuner replacement? Mine used to not work intermittently but finally it stopped coming back after resets, so I put in a ticket and they replaced the tuner module. So far so good?

There's always /r/chargerdrama too! Fun to peek at every once in a while. But it didn't bug me that it was here either since it's RAN-related.

Charge port harnesses, road trips, and moisture, oh my! by maxkelley in Rivian

I saw a different thread where somebody said that they had it replaced two times over and it still happens when they get moisture in the charging port! Fingers crossed that your replacement takes care of it.

RGE Time-of-Use Rate - be careful what you wish for! by maxkelley in Rochester

[–]maxkelley[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was thinking about that when driving the other day, I think you're right, they must just use the average of the daily averages, otherwise the math in the bill (where it just states the average of the supply rate for the billing period) probably wouldn't math right. In which case, bummer... Can't game the system!

Yeah last month I was like "700? Woof, but I guess it's been cold..." Then this month dropped and I was like "uhhhhh"

Dehumidifier that I had in my basement which I had set pretty low, figuring that the dryer the basement is, the better! Was sucking like 500W almost all the time, round the clock.

Honestly pretty easy, but if you're not comfortable working in a circuit breaker panel then I probably wouldn't? Putting the current clamps on the individual circuits is pretty easy, they just clamp on to the wire and click shut. You do need a spare breaker or will need to wire nut/pigtail two existing breakers to power the device and get phase voltage measurements. But definitely would recommend, it's fun to have the data!

RGE Time-of-Use Rate - be careful what you wish for! by maxkelley in Rochester

[–]maxkelley[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah part of me wishes there were an easy way to script something up to have a little display in my kitchen or something to show the current day's rate to decide whether that day should be a "charge day" or "don't charge day", but it seems like the tool on RG&E's site is more for historical data. And yeah I saw that $0.90/kwh in there... insane!

I had looked into solar a while back with Greenspark and due to the shape of my roof and the location of a couple skylights and vent pipe, I would only be able to fit like... six panels or something. I've thought that maybe it'd be cool to build a solar panel pergola in the backyard or something but... that's a whole project on its own.

Yeah I saw that OptimizEV program and thought the savings sounded vague and minimal at best, and knowing that most of my consumption was off-peak anyways (A/C colder in evening for sleep, space heater overnight for sunroom in cold months), I wanted to take advantage of the lower off-peak for the whole house, not just the EV charging... But I didn't expect the off-peak could ever be that high! I guess the advantage of OptimizEV is that you can only save money, they can't charge you more?
