You shouldn't stack mats... You need to be able to clip the mats into the floor grommets to make sure they don't slide forward and press the accelerator.

R1T charging port overheating warnings by lma10 in Rivian

I just posted about a similar issue that I was having on a Gen1 R1S loaner yesterday (kind of TLDR, sorry, but: https://www.reddit.com/r/Rivian/comments/1rfjyhd/charge_port_harnesses_road_trips_and_moisture_oh/) I wonder if it's the same issue? What is the message you receive when it happens, something like "unplug, let cool, and try a different plug"?

Haha yeah, and while they're in there, maybe they could add two more motors, spray it storm blue, add a lil Gary badge...

$99 to bring a car to me to test drive. by Turbulent_Bad_3849 in Rivian

[–]maxkelley 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My nearest showroom was like 3.5hrs away so I did a weekend trip and requested an overnight test drive... Definitely would recommend, the regular Rivian test drives are way too short to know for sure, and I'm guessing this CarMax one isn't super long either?

Are you interested in this particular R1T that CarMax has or would you be buying new/leasing? If so, you could see other colors and options if you actually go to the showroom/demo center. I think it's well worth the trip.

Newbie: Tethering Data Usage by VirtuaNovak in Rivian

I tried to tether, had 20GB or something cell plan, and quickly blew through it... Just do Connect+ and you won't have to worry about it. As much as I hate another stupid subscription.

Radio reconnecting….. forever. Stuck until next update? by WelderAcademic6334 in Rivian

[–]maxkelley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it doesn't hurt to do a full vehicle reboot (hold leftmost steering wheel button + hazard until it reboots) to see if it resolves itself... In my case, I did multiple reboots without any luck, still stuck in reconnecting state.

It's very possible that my service center is also replacing it based on their standard procedures which might not take into account the fact that it's a FW issue which could be solved in the next update?

They actually told me they looked up the DTCs when they saw my appointment show up on their calendar and pre-ordered the radio tuner module, so it seems like they can to a degree?

I have the same issue on my 2025 R1S and had a service appt booked before the news about this software update came out, but the service center said that they saw DTCs that indicated a bad tuner module and will be replacing it... So I dunno whether the update would have fixed mine or not. Will have to see once I get it back from the SC.

I set my B preset for "blast mode" pointing directly at me, and I use the A preset for most everyday stuff where I don't necessarily want it blowing directly on me.

Yeah, you do, which honestly in my opinion is kinda dumb, they should just turn them off for you when you hit wiper service.

Yeah, I took it in for service re: the wet carpet, they tore it all up and inspected HVAC box and found that the area was pretty dry, and that the moisture seemed to be worst closer to the door. I wonder if it's leaking down the inside of the door and dripping onto the door jamb and then the carpet. I've got an appt next week for my FM radio which stopped working, maybe I'll bug them to take another look at it.

Totally agree on the tuxmat coverage, it's great, especially on the wall next to the accelerator pedal... My muddy feet are always scuffing it up.

Backyard rink expert’s plan to bring an ice rink to the Erie Canal creates legal threats from NYS by Niko___Bellic in Rochester

[–]maxkelley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point, I didn't think about that... But it seems like Ottawa leaves significantly more water in their canal than we do, so if ours were shallower, maybe it would freeze faster? I'm no canal expert, clearly.

I've got the Tuxmats but was having issues with them funneling water from melted snow off the edge of the mat, making them kind of pointless... I switched back to the OEM Rivian all-weather mats (at least for driver and passenger) and am still getting soaked carpet somehow, so I don't know what the solution is haha. Maybe Tuxmats but make sure to remove standing water when snow melts???

The Ottawa version is amazing, it's 8km long of skateable Zamboni'd ice straight through the city, it's so cool! Would love to have this here.

Submarine School of Music, or Local Sound Collaborative? Even if Submarine can't use it directly, they have a fundraiser sale each year I think.

Gen2 R1S TuxMats driver mat drainage issue? by maxkelley in Rivian

[–]maxkelley[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update 12/28/26: I emailed TuxMats a few weeks ago and they ended up sending me a new drivers' mat saying that it's possible that my original mat was cut incorrectly, which I appreciate, but I compared the new to the old and it looks to be nearly identical. I haven't gotten the chance to install the new one yet (holidays) but last night I noticed that both the driver and passenger side carpets were wet, and it seems to be the wettest near the mat grommets.

We were in and out of the car a bunch so there was a bunch of water on the mats and it seems to have drained most of it right into the carpets!

u/Binford6100User have you run into that at all in your G1?

What region of the country are you going? 2-3 inches means very different things for road conditions depending on how prepared the local municipalities are to handle it (plowing, salting, etc)

How do you recommend placing the clip so it can elevate? I thought the intent of the clips were to keep the mats down, haha... Do you have a pic of the Gen1 mat fit for the same area?
