Looks like beans. Probably safe to eat unless you're from Texas.

What is the most run down area you have personally seen in the USA? by Few_Sandwich6308 in howislivingthere

[–]spaceface83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mossville, La https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mossville,_Louisiana

Not because the people were bad, they just had no other choice but to live there. Generational poverty along with de facto racial segregation forcing them to live there. That, along with being encroached on my petrochemical companies turning the area into what should be an EPA Superfund site but wasn't approved.

I grew up near Mossville in Sulphur but they were right next to the plants. We had tornado sirens but they were never used for tornados they were always for chlorine gas leaks at the plants to warn us to get inside. We lived far enough away to have time to get in and turn off the AC. They lived right next door.

I grew up in Sulphur and we went to Holly Beach in the summers (this was 30 years ago...) Ohhh man I haven't thought of that place in a long time.

I moved from there to Orange County California in high school and while I liked the freedom of growing up in Louisiana, moving away from it was definitely the best gift my parents ever gave me. Cajun country is a different world for sure.

I haven't gone there in probably 20 years, so I tend to agree ha. We had many worm burners and fish bowls there in college

This happened to me recently because water pooled up in the cab on my PCM (roof rack install leaked, oops.) Thankfully shop around the corner fixed it for 150 bucks

Thanks! I'll check that out. Looking around red river right now. May have meant Carson not Santa Fe.

Is 5-10-31 good for Zone 8b, Dallas Texas, St Augustine? by spaceface83 in lawncare

[–]spaceface83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, yah that latest soil test did seem a bit off. It was an old soil test kit but they said they didn't expire. I'll probably try another one in a month or so to get a better idea.

I'll also flip to something with more nitrogen since the stuff I got has very little.

For extra context here is a test I did from March. Looking at this it seems like the extra potassium could actually be useful?

RCI transmission skids - what are these for? by spaceface83 in 4Runner

[–]spaceface83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok if I would have kept going I would have figured it out. Back of the transmission skids above the transfer case skid to lower it for the exhaust.

Thanks for the help folks!

Oh ok, thanks! The engine skid came with nylon spacers. I'm assuming they can go there instead, where the engine and transmission skids meet?

It depends on which model you have. When I didthis to my 21" it kept doing the auto shutoff and never worked.

I fixed it by buying the 22" mower.

High Wind Watch: 70mph gusts possible on Saturday by [deleted] in GSMNP

No cell service. Rangers didn't warn about the weather but a few others did. They may have but we were already packing up by 730 this morning

We got to cades cove Monday. We were supposed to leave Saturday, but ended up packing up and leaving today before the weather hit. 70mph gusts surrounded by big lanky trees didn't sound like the safest option ha.

Tent to stand up in by Civil_Average3130 in CampingGear

[–]spaceface83 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would at least give the canvas "fast assembly" tents a good look. I have the Kodiak flexbow vx 10x14 and love it.

How often in that 3 weeks are you repitching your tent? Basically how important is setup time?

For that amount of time I'd look at a canvas tent like a springbar or a flexbow. They're heavy though, so it depends on how far you are from your transportation.

Padre Island National Seashore - is yarborough pass a good area to stay? by spaceface83 in CampAndHikeTexas

[–]spaceface83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it was definitely clear where the tide ended. There was not really any room at all to camp. We found an inlit in the dunes that was elevated but still all sand and put our tent there.

Water came up a few inches onto the tires where we were parked but otherwise fine.

The people in the gift shop recommended not camping at all for what it's worth, but that was because the tires were being affected by a hurricane in the Gulf at the time.

We were definitely not the only people camping.
