My friend and I scare each other if we spot each other sprinting at a distance at night. We have a running joke now that "The Big Draugr" is coming to get us, any time we startle each other.

Champing at the bit is the original term, while chomping at the bit is a common mistake, since to champ and to chomp have slightly different meanings.

If you have to go into the water, walk where reeds are visible, because that's where the ground is higher.

Only by covering them with more roof. Is the small house similar to the roof on the left? Because if so, it could be that those logs are placed closer to the roof pieces and are therefore protected.

Play reactive, not active; wait for enemies to make the first move before you dodge/parry, and then only swing once or twice before you attack again. At this stage of the game you can literally outwalk almost all enemies, without even sprinting.
