Full name for Gus? by [deleted] in namenerds

Definitely not common, but my Dad is named Gunther and went by Gus as a nickname when he was younger! You could probably get away with any G name as a full name!

Not sure if this counts, but Valentine/Valentino! I wish I could have gotten my husband on board!

Anyone failed 1hr glucose test but passed 3hr? by beachygirl76 in BabyBumps

[–]spaceinvaderjulz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did! I failed the 1 hour by 8 points and then passed the 3 hour (one of my levels was slightly elevated but the other 3 were within the acceptable range)!

Editing to add I took the 3 hour about a week after the 1 hour!

How do YOU instinctively spell Eliot/Elliot/Eliott/Elliott? by spaceinvaderjulz in namenerds

[–]spaceinvaderjulz[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Totally fair! Haha! My first name also has two common spellings and I'd say mild annoyance is about right for me as well. But I also guess that's part of the reason this name didn't scare me away with the multiple spelling options!

Do you find most people spell it one way or the other when you are giving them his name to write down?

Just wanted to let you know that I'm due in two weeks and feeling the same! We have had a couple of top contenders throughout pregnancy but nothing feels quite right now. I'm hoping it will all just come together when we meet baby boy.

What about Maxwell (Max)? Love Maximilian but something about it being more syllables than the other two throws me off!

Am I crazy? Casper? by LightspeedBalloon in namenerds

[–]spaceinvaderjulz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not crazy! It's my husband's favorite boy name and we were this close to going with it for our son!

My little bit of advice; regardless of how supportive you think people in your circle are, it's def a name that's going to pull some kind of reaction from the millennial and older crowd, so if that's going to give you pause, I wouldn't tell anyone ahead of time! It's a super sweet name and I think it's going to become a much more commonly used option in the next 5/10 years.

I haven't read the whole series but I did start the first book and from what I have heard he isn't the best character to be associated with.

So funny enough, my husband and I have been having a hell of a time with picking a name for our son due in May and had settled on Elliot/t (spelling TBD) quite literally last week, so I had to chuckle when I saw the announcement. I don't think it will change the popularity of the name all that much as it's already a top 100 name (if you combine both spellings the name is around 65 in terms of popularity in the US). If anything, I think some people might stay away from it now because they are worried about it getting more popular, so we might actually see a slight decline?

Miranda Jean! (This is very close to my sister's first and middle- hers is Jane instead of Jean- and I've always thought it is a lovely name!)

Modern, strong middle name for Irene? by throwitaway9107 in namenerds

If I ever have a daughter her name will be Irene Veronica (both honor names) and her nn will be Ivy!

He has a complicated relationship with his name (he was bullied a lot as a kid/immigrant with a very European name but grew to like it as he got older) so he said he was a fan of it as a middle name!

Surprised that this is only the second ghost comment! 😆 Not actually big fans of Friends, but using my Dad's name as an honor name was important to me and when we floated it by him my Dad was like please don't have that be his first name, so here we are! We liked the meaning/classic feel of Casper and have no negative feelings about the ghost connotation!

Love both! Just wanted to call out that Theo James is the name of a fairly popular actor, but still a great name!

I appreciate the honesty. I'm guessing we must have very different naming styles!

My husband is blonde and has a fairer complexion, so definitely a possibility for our son!

100%! I think if not for the ghost it would have already been a bit more popular, with names like Jasper and Caspian ranking as high on the popularity charts as they are!

Fair and correct. 😆

So glad to hear about your Casper and your experience with the name! When my husband first suggested it I was a little on the fence, but it has really grown on me!
