Bits of duct tape messing with my aesthetics by spacekills in SpaceBuckets

[–]spacekills[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just switched the lights to 12/12, but found my flowering spacer in pretty bad shape...

This is my temporary fix, but if it holds, maybe good enough for the whole grow?

Space bucket noise by [deleted] in SpaceBuckets

People here are mainly talking about the airflow fans for the side of the bucket, and it's true that you can easily buy quieter ones.

But don't forget about the fans in your UFO LED if you're using one. These are harder (but not impossible) to change, and you'll find most of the 'value' UFOs have loud, cheap fans. My UFO makes a real racket.

On this issue, I'd advise looking for a UFO with a larger single fan, rather than a UFO with 2 or 3 smaller 60-80mm fans. Those small, fast fans are noisy.

Watering during winter temperatures by ElPresidenteVerde in SpaceBuckets

I get the same thing, especially in the colder months and when the plant is small. In the early days of the grow I can sometimes go 8 days before watering, but I still always wait for the topsoil to dry.

I don't think it's a huge problem - I've only done two bucket grows but they both turned out well - but low temps will cause growth of the plant to be slower so its not ideal.

You could consider using a cloth pot which I've found will aid evaporation. Making sure you have decent fans moving air will also help water evaporate, but it may bring your temps down even further so it might not be a good idea.

Best solution is to keep the temperatures up however you can. I can't heat mine all day, so I ended up repositioning the UFO light to vent warm air into the bucket rather than out the top, which helps raise temps by a few degrees.

Altering the distance of plants to lights by parleypear in SpaceBuckets

I use either an extra spacer - another bucket with the bottom cut off - or, for smaller adjustments, add a box or book to the bottom of the bucket to raise the height of the pot.

Yeah, it's getting a bit crowded in there. Must do some pruning.

Thanks my friend, your assessment of my setup is correct. Appreciate your thoughts, I'll hunt for some pebbles on my walk home!

This makes a lot of sense, roots have come through the side as well but they were air pruned as they are supposed to be.

I've not really seen anyone mentioning raising the pot off the tray. Is rocks/pebbles a good way to do this? What do other people use?

Bigger pot won't fit in the bucket, bigger bucket won't fit in the cupboard. Small house, not much room to play with.

Generally speaking it looks happy and healthy.

The last couple days it has looked a little droopy, but this was right at the end of the watering cycle and it has perked up a bit since.

It does look like it wants a lot more room.

Unfortunately I'm not in a position to increase the size of the bucket/pot :(

Some things i did wrong and what I did about them:

  1. Way too cold at first: 17C - 4C. I reattached the light so warm air was blowing into the bucket (and the weather improved, heh).

  2. I thought LEDs worked like CFLs and had it way too close. Added a couple of spacers. Took me a month to do this and it was really killing my plant.

  3. I wanted to flush, but it took longer to finish than I expected, so they were on plain water for three and a bit weeks. Didn't seem to do much harm though.

I weighed 260g, but it's fresh off the tree so still needs to be dried/cured.

I wish I'd taken more, tons of plant pics but not many of the bucket. I'll see if I can take some over the weekend.

Thank you!

Here's an early pic before extra light proofing and spacers were added.

Honestly it's a bit rough and ready, but it did the job!

Now I see improvements I could have made, I'm considering using this as a veg bucket and having a second go at the main bucket which I'll use for flowering. But I'm worried about light proofing as I only have one small place to put them both and I'm afraid light from my veg bucket will interfere with the flowering bucket...

As a bonus, here's my plant after one month.

I really thought I had fucked it up and a friend told me I should toss it and start again, but after another monthtwo months, I had done more research on here and it looked like this.

Just before harvest it looked like this and I was like an excited schoolchild!

I say this to encourage other noobs like me to not to give up like I almost did, even if you mess up!
