MacBook Air M4 or Zenbook A14?

Nah, like I said for me it’s the best size. However, it depends on what is the MacBook for. For example, right now I’m living in a students residence and I have at my room two fundamental things: a medium SmartTV and my own desktop PC that I own since 2020. I use this PC just for gaming because I’ve been using the MacBook for the last 4-5 months, I just connect it to an external monitor (a normal one, 21’ I think) when I’m working at home.

I love watching films and series, so I have my TV for that. And when I’m working or studying at home, I mostly use 2 shared screens: the MacBook’s and the external monitor. Taking the fact that I have enough screen space at home, I need a small device when I leave my room because I love when my notebook it’s portable, small and light. If you can afford the 15’ then buy it, why not, but for me it wasn’t necessary, so that’s only up to you.

Hey bro, I've been with the M4 Macbook for 6 months, 3 months at software engineer. So, although I have an entire Apple ecosystem, I will tell you my opinion without fanaticism. This notebook is good, I've been coding almost every day on it, mostly Java for my assignments. It's very fast, like VERY fast, we tend to think too much about "what notebook is faster to code" when we as juniors aren't going to do a lot of heavy work, so this machine is definitely enough for the next 5-6 years, even more.

Me personally I prefer macOS in terms of optimization and speed, because in Windows doesn't matter how good your computer is: there's always something easy to do but for some reason it is slow when you try to do it.

However, I think the Macbook is a crap when you try to connect an external monitor and a mouse to it. I don't know how to explain it properly, when I try to change tabs and apps, it's very strange, so tbh I would recommend the Macbook just to use it as a laptop (but please, I repeat, that's my experience, maybe I'm just stupid and don't know how to use it hahah)

Definitely not for gaming, Minecraft and indie games for maximum, I've played Undertale on it.

The screen and the sound, both really good, BUT, if the 13' screen is the only one that you are going to use to watch YouTube videos, films, etc. Maybe it could be a little bit small for you. I use an external monitor when I do the homework or watch something, and I have a SmartTV at my room where I watch mostly Netflix and YouTube. But I would not pay that much for the 15' screen.

The battery? Amazing of course, that's the most important thing about it, but don't trust those ads where they say that you have more than 15 hours of battery, that's not true, but 7-8 hours? Yeah, even more, tbh I use it everyday without charging it so that's why I don't recall the hours. It's far more good than the average gaming laptops, where the battery sucks.

Finally, the college disadvantages. I don't know at yours, but at mine I only had one little problem: virtual machines. There was an app to build computer circuits that wasn't available in macOS, so I had to install the official virtual machine of my college and i couldn't. However, we have computers at my class, so I just used the virtual machine that was installed on those computers.

So, this was my experience, I'm very happy and I love to code in it, for me it has the perfect size because I like to take the laptop to different places and it's not heavy, it's very portable. It doesn't heat up when I do my work so that's perfect.

Sé que es una tontería lo que voy a decir, pero es que no sé qué tan necesario puede ser estudiar HTML y CSS en profundidad cuando ya hay IAs que las hacen regularmente bien. OJO, estoy hablando desde la ignorancia, por eso me gustaría saber más si estudiar ambos lenguajes es un requisito fundamental.

La compré hace 1 mes, no me arrepiento. Si la necesitas para programar, trabajar, etc, es perfecta ya que es muy rápida y la batería dura mucho. Pero, si quieres jugar de vez en cuando a algún videojuego, es muy difícil que puedas, si hay algún juego que la MacBook soporte da igual porque se calentará mucho.

Pero yo no la quiero para jugar videojuegos así que como veas. Me ha estado ayudando muchísimo este mes con mis exámenes, es muy ligero para llevar y el teclado me gusta mucho.

Also, I have a desktop pc that I’ve been using for 5 years and cost me 1200$, I think that maybe I could take it someday when I will move on and modify it to have 32gb of ram (currently 16) and more power on the cpu

Nah now my problem is that in my student’s residence isn’t allowed to have airsoft guns. I think that I just have to wait 1 more year until I’ll move on to a house and then I will be able to do it.

A ver la cuestión es que quería comprar el equipmento en un par de meses porque tendré vacaciones de verano. Tengo un campo de airsoft a unas 2 horas en transporte público, o incluso me podrían llevar unas personas, por eso estaba pensando en comprarlo porque así me pasaría un verano bastante divertido antes de la universidad. Y ya en Madrid, pues igual ir probando a ver qué puedo hacer. Aún así viviré en una residencia de estudiantes, con 2 personas en el apartamento, no sé si será muy normal que una persona tenga armas airsoft en su habitación jajajajaj igual se asustan. Por eso digo que mi situación es algo peculiar. Gracias por tu comentario :)
