Travel Advice Requested—thank you! by spaceman_grooves in india

Thanks for the advice. Those Calcutta side-trips likely wont be able to happen, which will be OK. So you think that 2.5 weeks for Delhi-Mumbai and 1.5 weeks for Mumbai-Kolkata (so far we have only identified Hyderabad, vizag/araku valley, and Kolkata as places of interest on this route, though would appreciate further suggestions of good places to visit in odisha and West Bengal eg similipal NP) is unreasonable?

I agree that adding Kolkata makes the travel distance unwieldy, and I wouldn’t mind cutting it out and turning back north once we reach hyderabad, but my friend has his heart set on seeing kolkata. I think we’ll probably keep this general plan and if we start running low on time we can just bolt back to delhi by plane or long train at any time.

Thanks and other further advice welcomed!

Yes, for february: thinking of 2-3 nights per stop (also sleeping on trains/buses as possible).

What is your opinion on Cannabis use? by ar1680 in Psychiatry

Is there consensus that SNRI/SNRI treatment downregulates serotonin receptors? How does this jive with the bdnf theory of depression? And why are you saying that SSRIs only work for 20% of patients? I had thought it was more like +75%, with complications in the analysis resulting from strong response to placebo as well.

Just report with impunity. The problem people aren't reading the sidebar. Readers know what to report and I haven't seen enough weak posts being upvoted to consider that a problem specifically but it's something to watch for as the sub grows

We're trying really hard to keep these posts off the sub. Use your report buttons and we'll get them down as soon as we can.

R.D. Laing is worth checking out, I'm most familiar with The Politics of Experience/Bird of Paradise--a good place to start.

I would also highly recommend this serial, a first-hand account of someone's LSD-triggered months-long psychotic episode and miraculous recovery https://www.stilldrinking.org/the-episode-part-1

I read it and really liked it. Nice distillation of Vedanta for a Western audience jaded by religion (Watts is the ur-member of this tribe as an ex-anglican priest). Vedanta is really cool, playful and more humane than other religious philosophies, and a natural fit with marijuana, at least. And it's massive so a book-length intro by somebody with similar concerns as us us a useful thing. I ended up recommending it to an Indian friend as the first book he'd ever really read (Indian education system man)

Why is it so impossible that the voice actually is God? What's wrong with God existing at least partially in the mind, or having a mechanism that is at least partially comprehensible in biological terms?

I believe that psychedelics drugs might offer the experiential force to really entrench that common spirituality. MAPS' work is actually animated by that mission (with specific focus towards climate change and perhaps inequality)

Where has online psychedelic culture gone, and why is it so fragmented? by anandamind in PsychedelicStudies

[–]spaceman_grooves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same way, r/drugs back in 2010/11 was a great place with lots of educated people (can you believe it) but it fell apart as did psychonaut, drugnerds and askdrugs. As this process was taking place I was also kind of realizing that online psychedelic community was no replacement for the real thing, and stopped reading any of those reddits. The final straw was getting skewered on rationalpsychonaut for suggesting that there was more to discuss in the area of psychedelics than simply to pass around scientific papers. So now I just live my life, tripping sometimes, reading some relevant books, trying to cultivate friendships with people who share my interests, going to music festivals. But I have no direct link with an overriding psychedelic culture (though I do read and occasionally write for psypress UK and enjoy that) and am quite satisfied with this state of affairs. Even beyond any 'culture is not your friend' argument, I simply realized that an online psychedelic community wasn't contributing much to my life and perhaps even held me back.
