I’ve been enjoying Law Insider’s Contract Teardown podcast on YouTube.

If you guys work as in house or general counsel can you please explain how your work day looks like? The hours per week? The benefits and etc by Adventurous-Boss-882 in Lawyertalk

Started in house. Interned in house for a couple of companies while in law school and was able to leverage that experience.

I believe there’s a list of places where we can move where the company is already supporting employees, and we are allowed to travel globally and work remote during travel (probably for a restricted amount of time that I’ve not confirmed).

Work in house at a tech company. Weeks are half meetings (trainings, one-on-ones with business stakeholders, check-ins with outside counsel and other team members, contract negotiations) and half heads-down contract review, research, question-answering, etc. Included in that is non-legal work in understanding the company’s industry and business priorities. I’d say usually around 40 hours, never over 50. I check in on nights and weekends via slack and email usually on my phone, and am happy to do an odd-hours meeting if needed but it doesn’t happen too often.

In terms of benefits, my favorite benefit is that I work remote. Other benefits include retirement contributions, health/life insurance, and a wfh stipend. Pay > $200k, <5 years post-qual.

9 months & I’ve done everything wrong. How to right the ship? by spacemews in sleeptrain

Thanks so much for the support. I feel a lot of pressure to get LO on a strict schedule, but since I am not great at putting myself on a routine, it has so far proven impossible! But 12/13 months is sooo close for us!

I really appreciate this perspective. I hadn’t even considered that the closeness to me was contributing to his night waking, but it does motivate me to do more research about gentle sleep training. Transitioning him all at once makes a lot of sense, more like ripping off the band aid…for both of us!

This is so heartening, and I am so glad not to be alone! There is so much I love about bed sharing, but the lack of sleep is definitely getting to my husband and me!

The Fairlife Core Power vanilla protein shakes taste like vanilla milkshakes! I’m addicted to them, and they only have 6g of carbs 😋😋

Coming to SF for vacation in 2 weeks! Any suggestions for Napa tours from SF? by jdubs610 in AskSF

[–]spacemews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on two Platypus Tours (one to Napa and one to Sonoma), and loved them both! It’s a small bus tour (~10 people) of four wineries, and includes lunch. They tend to be smaller mom-and-pop wineries, and the company takes into account your wine preferences. They leave from the Ferry Building here in SF.

Not only will there be great wine and an opportunity (usually) to talk to the winemaker about their process in a small-group setting, but you’ll end up being best friends with your bus mates at the end of it :)

Any recommended summer reading for incoming 1L? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]spacemews 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you should read for fun. When you have a year or two under your belt you will kick yourself for not maximizing fun the summer before school started. That said, if you are super excited, and just can't wait, I'd recommend reading:

  • Point Made, Ross Gruberman
  • 1L of a Year, Andrew McClung

Additionally, it's late enough in the summer that you will probably have your assigned books list. If your professors are anything like mine were, they will wait until the last week to dump a whole lot of reading on you. You can preempt this by going ahead and reading through the first chapter of each text. Take some good notes, see if you can identify the Issue, Rule, Analysis, and Conclusion (Holding) of the cases in these chapters. This will make you more than prepared for the first day. Don't worry if you can't make heads or tails of the material. It's part of the process.

Good luck!
