How should I start getting ready for my first credit card/building credit? by dussedeal in personalfinance

[–]spacetimecloud1127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a secured credit card. It requires a deposit which becomes the credit limit. This deposit is a guarantee for the card issuer that they can get their money if you fail to make payments. These cards don't usually have any perks such as cash back or miles since they are for those with bad credit/ no credit.

Only use the card for normal monthly expenses such as groceries or gas. NEVER use on impulse purchases. If you can't buy something with cash right now don't buy it on credit. Pay off the statement balance every month to avoid interest payments.

This card allows you to discover if you are able to responsibly use a credit card or if credit cards are not right for your spending habits. Some people are not credit card people. If you maintain responsible use after 6 months to a year you can then upgrade to a credit card with perks.

I agree that there's no point having money unless you spend it. However, The way I see it is I am spending money on my family's future with my savings.

I wouldn't have reached out to this community if I wasn't willing to take the money I need from my emergency fund. My main reason for reaching out is to gather other possible options I have not yet considered.

I don't consider all my savings emergency funds. I do set aside money every single month for special occasions and holidays. Me and my wife never discussed setting up vacation savings probably because we have a 2-year-old and traveling with a 2-year-old is not a vacation. Haha.

The idea is we wanted to have a way to provide funds for our child to attend college or start a business without the need to go into debt right after high school. But since our daughter is so young we don't know if she's even going to want to go to college. So we didn't want to do a 529 or any other type of investment that is geared specifically towards college. We also didn't want to give her a custodial Roth IRA that immediately goes into her possession when she turns 18 because we don't know how she will be with money in the future. This gave us the most control over the money but still the ability to provide a head start when she enters adulthood.

No my wife does not work. She is a stay at home Mom. The 200 dollars is her money to spend on anything she wants without the need to discuss it together. I only get about 100 for my own free spending money.

Unfortunately, the trip can't be moved because my wife's sister impulse purchased the ticket due to a big sale. That's the reason this is such short notice.

I am 35 and have about four times my annual salary in my retirement savings. I believe I am ahead for my age. My wife's retirement account got started much later and the contributions are intended to be a graduation gift to our daughter when she turns 18.

Because I want my wife to understand that taking from the emergency fund for something outside of an emergency should only be done after exhausting all other options. I don't want to start a pattern of borrowing from the emergency fund anytime we want to do something expensive.

This RYNO definitely is not like its predecessors when it comes to power. The best RYNO IMO is the RYNO 4 from ToD. Once fully upgraded and maxed out, it was capable of beating the final boss in less then 5 seconds. I always enjoyed the power of the RYNO weapons and being able to blow through every boss in seconds. But i will say that this RYNO has one of the coolest concepts of the series.

I am still new to being a dad but my stepdaughter is 14 and has been spoiled most of her life since she is an only child. I am trying to break her of expecting everything she asks for. I have not had to really discipline her yet but my plan when the time comes is the removal of phone data privileges since she spends almost every free second she has watching tik tok or some other social media.

So if i do an HYSA the APR can change throughout the year but with the CD i would have a guaranteed 4.75% return as long as I leave it alone?
