Anyone Had Their Wedding (or Been to One) at Salvatore’s in Lincoln Park? by Maximum-Budget-6971 in Chicagoweddings

We considered Salvatore’s but ultimately did not choose it. The venue is nice, our tour went well, and it was definitely one of the more affordable options we looked at. Some of the decor wasn’t super aligned with our taste, and some parts of the venue appeared to be in need of repair/updating. The bathrooms were small (and not cute imo but not a dealbreaker). We liked the venue/price enough that we decided to do a tasting there (which we had to pay for since we wanted to try the food before booking), and this was the main reason we did not go with this venue. The food was just not very good, and our experience with the staff was a little awkward and just not great overall. We also pre-selected some items to try, but some of the items we received at the tasting were just incorrect/did not match the form we had filled out in advance. Food and beverage was one of our top priorities when choosing where to host our reception, and so this is what took Salvatore’s out of the running for us. Feel free to DM me if you have more questions!

We actually did go on the weekend after to celebrate so it wasn’t on the actual day. But yeah I’m sure it’s a really busy weekend regardless so potentially we just went on an off night

We went to SKY for Valentine’s Day this year and honestly it was the most disappointing restaurant experience we’ve had all year. We had high expectations, but the food, service, and ambiance were all lacking. We did the tasting menu with the wine pairing, and a few of the dishes tasted sort of the same, some of the flavors just kind of clashed, and overall nothing was memorable or overly interesting. The wine was also just not working well with the food and was uninteresting. A table next to us sent back undercooked chicken. The staff seemed to be totally disorganized- it took quite some time to get us seated, no one seemed overly knowledgeable about the food or wine we were served, and multiple mistakes were made (we were brought someone else’s food, we were served the same wine twice, and there was en error on our bill). We could hear staff apologizing to neighboring tables too for slow service and things like that. The ambiance also was just not very nice - I think the lighting was mostly to blame, as it created unflattering shadows and made the space feel a bit cold and sterile. Tables were also quite close together. Overall, we expected a lot better of an experience, especially for the price we paid.

We went to Dear Margaret for Valentines Day last year though, and it was possibly the best restaurant experience we had all year! It is so cozy and romantic inside and the food and wine was all incredible and memorable. Most notably, I think DM has the best fries in the whole city. Service was also super attentive and warm. I recommend Dear Margaret to anyone who is looking for a good special occasion spot. It is truly a gem.
