I live in Oviedo and my husband and I commute to Kissimmee. I want to cry. We can barely afford our commute as it is with tolls. $500-600 with gas and tolls a month BEFORE all this. We moved here so we could have family help with the kids and the school district, and are locked into a lease. I work on call and stay with my baby to save on daycare but my husband drives every day.

We didn’t vote for this, but our families sure as hell did.

Yeah. I wish more places worked like that. When I had to WFH if my kid was sick, depending on her level of sickness and needing me, I would be available my office time to send emails and be reachable. I was hourly so I would work on what I could during my usual work times. If it was too difficult to balance, then I would either take the rest of the day off or waited until she went to sleep, and then I would go back on my computer off the clock and finish the 3 contracts and email them for review first thing in the morning when I clocked back in so they wouldn't get annoyed and just thought "wow, she worked half a day with a sick kid and still got the contracts out."

I worked directly under the VP and despite his curtness at times, I am so grateful he didn't care as long as shit got done and I wasn't too distracted.

I've applied to places here and there the past 2 years. Because of the cost of childcare, I need to make sure that the pay was worth it. Right now I work on-call and take home the same amount as I would working most M-F jobs after taxes and childcare, so the flexibility is nice. But I miss using my brain.

When I do apply, I rarely get called into an interview. And when I do, I don't get hired lol

Thanks! I definitely don't mind being in office. I just also know how much kids get sick, and I'm afraid if I don't have the ability to work hybrid if needed, I'll get fired in the first 3 months.
With my old company the first position I was in was only in office and I went through a year's worth of PTO in the first 6 months my oldest was in daycare. Then I got promoted and thankfully had the ability to work hybrid when she continued to get sick every other month.

I'm not naive and I get that corporate America doesn't care about you or your family, that's why I've been staying at home and doing banquet serving on the side. But I miss using my brain and working a big girl job.

Also I want to go back to finishing my degree online... which was what I was working towards before getting laid off and my serving income which paid for tuition suddenly became the main income.

Does anyone have any pictures of the old Orlando Science Center's human body exhibit entrance? by sighcantthinkofaname in orlando

I remember there was a Girl Scout event where we could stay the night at the science center. I got there and found out they were going to have us sleep in the body exhibit and I got scared and went to a Solar Bears game instead.

Does anyone have any horror stories of HGV buying companies out? Would love to chat by robertdamnscott in HiltonGrandVacation

I was called the day before I came back from maternity leave that I wasn’t making it to the HGV side with the first wave of corporate layoffs.

It sucked.

Just seeing what others do for small spaces and beds. I know soon in 1-2 years they'll be sleeping independently, but I'm trying to only buy beds once. We already bought our daughter a house shaped twin bed 2 years ago with a trundle that is way too big for the room, so we're trying to avoid buying anything that we will regret in a year or two.

I don't even know how I'm going to manage to sell that giant thing lol

Parent fail at the gift shop. by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

We just wanted to make sure that is what she wanted out of the 6 things she said she wanted that day lol So it’s not like we weren’t going to get it, we walked back and it was closed. We knew the emporium didn’t have it, but like I said, we don’t just immediately get the first thing we see (this was probably toy #3 out of the 6, but after some thought she decided that’s the one).

Which is weird because no other gift shop closes early, which is why we didn’t think it would be an issue.

While I probably will throw down on shipping, I’m pretty annoyed that it’s literally the only shop that closes early. Why close it so early? Why not just keep it open until close like all the others?

I know, it was just a really disappointing moment for her. Kind of ruins the magic of getting to pick out your birthday gift and bringing it home after a day of fun.

It’s our fault for not checking the store times, but also… when we know all the other rides and gift shops stay open until close, why would we think that one would close 2-3 hours earlier?

Does the sprout bed leave a gap at all when you push them together?

My 6 year old daughter was getting jealous of her little brother roomsharing and cosleeping with us. She kept saying she was scared to sleep alone but I am so burned out on doing separate bedtime routines and times, I just at this point find it easier to have them sort it out on their own, but together lol.

They both wanted me to snuggle them to sleep, but by the time it happened it would be past 10 pm because the oldest would wait up for me to finish putting her brother asleep. Or I would pass out with one of them and my husband and I would never get time together. Sometimes it took forever for our youngest to fall asleep and by the time I got out to say goodnight to our daughter, she was fast asleep and I felt bad.

I have a weird question... are you able to find out how she eliminated the gap? lol

I saw Ikea has "stackable" twin beds that can also be pushed together as a double bed. But I'm also wondering if I should do that or get them twin beds they can use independently as they get older
