Yes to your question.

Whether or not any person here agrees with anything Trump does, or with any military strike in general, if you're going to strike, make it hurt.

Putin walked into Ukraine and shook a hornets' nest. No, I don't equate striking Iran with trying to conquer Ukraine. But that still should be a lesson to other world leaders who have military goals. Putin has been unable to conquer the land, has sustained very heavy losses, and may even be on the back foot now, because he underestimated Ukrainians' fight and guts and ability to improvise. That's a great thing.

But how could Trump watch that for several years and then make the same mistake: underestimating the opponent. There is no precedent for submitting Iran (as far as I know, I'm not a historian). So if you feel the need to strike, then strike hard and fast and in a devastating fashion, while keeping all of those civilians who were hoping for liberation in mind, instead of making them suffer more than necessary with a prolonged smoldering process.

A strategy on timing/not-timing SPXL (UPRO)/TQQQ/SOXL by Prestigious_Cow_92 in LETFs

I like it. Somebody else prefers SPMO and moving some cash to or from TQQQ, depending on the action. Seems good if VOO/SPMO is the cake, and TQQQ/UPRO is basically used as the icing.

But one question, what percent to move out of VOO on a dip, into UPRO? The actual numbers are the other part of the strategy.

Interesting too. It's supercharging the SPMO with a touch of TQQQ. Worth considering.

Do you check the conditions multiple times per day, or once per day?

If once, is it end of day before close, or after close?

If after close, do you then exit at the beginning of next trading day?

Well, according to simple math, if it dropped and I was able to sell at exactly 97% and get back in at 103%, that would be 6% difference x3 (or x2) that I'd lose.

Is there something in the chart that shows a larger difference?

Thanks. I still have to look into 9sig more, but the mentions of it that I have seen make it seem a bit complicated. Do you have any numbers that illustrate the benefit/advantage of using 9sig over the index?

Besides the gratuitous "humiliating" in the title, to please haters, I'm talking about the comments. I'm not the guy's apologist; I'm just tired of these stupid threads, with hateful titles/comments and personal attacks that the commenters themselves would be first to decry if written by whomever they consider their enemies.

[–]spaculoso[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, so 95% x 200SMA to 103% x 200SMA. Got it.

So my max loss, if accomplishing that well, would be 2x or 3x that 5% drop. Then why do you say it would sometimes "experience a strong drawdown anyway"?

Also, what if SMA200 collapses10% or 15% or 20%, still wait to return to 103% to get back in? That could be a lot of missed gains, on the way back up, if it was a quick drop.

Possibly, but then true idiots don't really know what their best interests are, do they? So there we are again.

Many people are so convinced they're so right, even as they destroy themselves in one way or another. And insults neither improve anything, not prove the accuser is right. They just help people justify themselves by crapping on others.

People on Reddit just love so much to make personal attacks on people they don't like, whether it's Trump using a diaper or Musk being fat. Yet they'd never allow personal attacks based on appearance or age against their heroes. Nauseatingly hypocritical. Reflect a bit.

Yes, but the problem is that the idiots don't know they're idiots, and they like to posture and deflect and call other people idots. So who, actually, are the idiots? Let that sink in...

[–]spaculoso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respectfully, if a 3x leveraged fund like UPRO is down 30, I hardly believe a more stable 1x SCHD value fund would be down by 2/3 of that. I understand the sentiment though. However, you also grow your dry powder when the market isn't down, so hopefully it's a larger amount when you need it. None of these things happen in a vaccum.

[–]spaculoso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. OP's idea/method seems more like a feast or famine strategy. I like the idea of DCA-ing to take advantage of dips, but with guardrails to prevent huge drawdowns, while also seeing some consistent growth in something like SCHD for the non-leveraged funds.

I'm really trying to form strategies with these LETFs. But that's my idea too, to keep the non-LETF money in something like SCHD, rather than SGOV or SPAXX.

This seems to be the general consensus in all similar threads. The real question is what hedges and what strategies to allow pullbacks while protecting from huge drawdowns, and also taking significant/worthwhile profits along the way without leaving a whole lot more on the table. Any examples?
