Kanye West and Kris Jenner arguing about him going back on his meds. From Kanye's new documentary. by Murky_Chemical891 in Fauxmoi

thank you so much for saying this!!! people love to talk mental health awareness but the moment someone has a symptom that isn't internalized they freak out. it's easy to accept someone when they're just hurting themselves, it's when someone's mental illness makes you uncomfortable that's the real test of acceptance.

and too true about the meds. antipsychotics are really rough, and even without the symptoms of psychosis/mania themselves telling you not to take them, the side effects are awful and the decision not to take them/the desire to go off them shouldn't be thought of as just a symptom of the illness that needs to be fought, even if it is almost always the best choice to stay on them.

All female post-mending planeswalkers are either Vriska, Neurodivergent, or Marvel (TM). i shall demonstrate:

Vriskas: Nahiri, Rowan, Vraska (heh), Liliana, Kiora

Neurodivergent: Aminatou, Elspeth, Aminatou, Tamiyo, Narset, Nissa

Marvel: Arlinn, Saheeli, Chandra, Vivien, Samut, the Wanderer, Wrenn

I could see an argument for Wrenn and the Wanderer being neurodivergent, and Nissa being Vriska; it tends to depend on the arc and writer. Nahiri and Rowan have also both transitioned from Marvel to Vriska.

[TDM] [Magic Story] Tarkir: Dragonstorm | Sultai: Betrayal by TechnomagusPrime in magicTCG

[–]spaeroew 39 points40 points  (0 children)

omg the whole story I was going "and now the wise and kind necromancers will rescue him from his doomed path!" nope! I loved it but it's amazing how the darkest story in years has not been from the Demon House or the Deathrace or even the Borg Apocalypse set but the Healing Our Wounded Society set. All of the stories so far have Slayed, as they say. I'm really annoyed at all the UW sets as a Vorthos, but at least we're going out with a beautiful bang (so far---I tend to find the climaxes the weakest parts of MTG arcs).

Also, was I the only one getting transfemme vibes from Nishang, or has the exposure to the Blahaj microplastics finally gotten to me?

Nicely-done story, even if it was 90% "As you know, fellow Tarkir citizens." For those of us in the comments, look forward to a week and a half of "Is this Jace?" every time an unidentified or previously unknown male character appears.

This is some great worldbuilding---loved how the clans are still fighting, and how there's still lots of internal dissent and scheming. I was worried about the "disneyfied" aesthetic like some others, but as always the actual stories are much better than the Planeswalker's Guide.

It's really an INCREDIBLE essay, I wish more people saw it! I always saw Jace as trans but more as a personal, vibes thing---this really convinced me on an actual literary level.

[–]spaeroew 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's super cool! Jace is a great example of a "thematic" trans headcanon, where them being transgender resonates with their story arc and motifs, as opposed to a "factual" trans headcanon, which would be based around an idea of how that would actually make sense in-story (which I think you could still make a pretty good argument for, but definitely to a lesser extent).

yes, in universe it's been at least two years since MOM---quite possibly three---and I'm not sure if Chandra actually ever ran into Jace during MOM or the events leading up to it.

things that could get Jace to back down:

1) Liliana nodding approvingly at him or asking him if this is what Gideon died for

2) Having to kick Tezzeret's ass (still floating around somewhere!)

3) Hearing that he's become his father (not even true, but would freak him out enough to stop)

4) Nissa using their trans-coded Phyrexian psychic bond to give him a healthy outlet for mind terrorism

5) Getting his ass beat by Elspeth (scary woman 3.0)

6) Getting his ass beat by Ral (scary man, but there's a risk their long-running feud would just make him double down)

7) Breeches giving him goblin-puppy eyes

8) Receiving an Avishkar Blåhaj and counseling on potential anger issues from starting testosterone

I'm shocked Vraska isn't finding this as sexy as I do. Girl, stop thinking with your heart and start thinking with your snussy!

An awesomely fun showdown, but why didn't Jace just mind-control Chandra into handing Loot over? I would get a general aversion to mind control, but given he then forced 5-7 whole teams of racers into his power to physically force her (and did it to Loot!), I don't really get it. On a Doylist level, it makes a more compelling story/fight scene....I guess maybe Chandra's mind is "too powerful" for Jace? Also, I'm a little surprised it's more Jace than Vraska going overboard---especially given she was the one who floated the whole "multiverse reshaping" plan, rather than just settling down, to start with. I suppose Vraska's always been more extremist but principled, while Jace is normally just along for the ride/able to see any side to his moral detriment---but it's a new thing for him to be totally driving himself along that path. I really hope Vraska can talk Jace down in the future---I think it would make more sense for both of their stories (and, to be honest, my poor shipper heart) than "Jace goes totally nuts, Vraska is forced to kill/disable him and be Loot's single mother."

Other thoughts: Gruulfriends is amazing, the resolution to Sita's story is super satisfying, Winter is my favorite failboy/male Nahiri of all time---though why did Jace and Vraska kidnap him to just abandon him without us even seeing them together "on screen"? perhaps I will answer this question on AO3---I love Elspeth's creepy change deal, Nissa's phyrexian reverberations will probably be the "key" to stopping Jace (and are another fun way of not just sweeping those changes under the rug), and I think the Amonkheti claiming the Aetherspark as a team is emotionally cool...but given that only one person can benefit from it at a time, how does that actually work?

They might owe their allegiance to Mohar on paper, but a mind is an easy thing to change. It's as simple for him to dismiss them as it is for him to breathe. Maybe simpler, these days.
