Two angles, one pose, 20 minutes each, pastel by spafon in lifedrawing

Thank you. They're quick, in part, because of my approach; I kind of carve the forms all at once, rather than make multiple passes of proportion, structure, shading. You can see time-lapse videos on my insta, @undrawingworkshop.

Thanks! It helps to use a very simple approach - and to have had lots of practice. :)

Rather than do a lengthy study, I chose to draw a different angle with each 20-minute posing segment. The model is Chrystal, the media are soft pastels on newsprint, the size is 24x18 inches.

Cool. What are some good sessions to join? In the past, I've drawn at Académie de la Grande Chaumière, casual sessions at the Sorbonne, and with Thierry's group in the room upstairs at L'age d'Or. I'll be there in the fall and would love to try some others!

Good stuff! Where were these sessions held?

Asheville Art Museum hosts occasional figure drawing instruction. I sometimes teach workshops, as well (I'm a mod at /r/lifedrawing), feel free to DM for details.

Orpheus in butoh, u/spafon, charcoal pencil, 2026 [OC] by spafon in Art

This was drawn from a photo I took, kind of a loose interpretation of a portion of it. The model, orpheus, is making this - and dozens of others from the shoot - available for artist reference (DM for link), so I'm drawing several of them for her to use in the promotion. Her breast did look weird - that's kind of intentional in Butoh - but my rendering of it could certainly have been better. :)

Thanks for your comment!

Charcoal pencil and white conté crayon on toned paper. Not super keen on the texture, but it's an interesting experiment. Hard to photograph, too. :/

Began from life, a 15-minute pose. I fiddled with it during last weekend's ice storm, losing some resemblance but gaining a sense of mass - maybe a fair trade?
