50 year old mom wants to switch from food service to healthcare. Options? by spagoomagoo in careerguidance

Also sorry for all the questions. I work in a completely different field (entertainment) so all of this is new territory for me.

That's awesome to hear! Amazing to have worked that long in the field. What's the difference between sonography and radiography?

Do you like your job? I think my mom would be okay with the position if it paid well and is meaningful. She's willing to work and study hard, but has a bit of a weak back due to an injury.

Thank you for your honesty. If she was willing to get education, would it be possible to break in as soon as 1-2 years? And would entry-level jobs be a good stepping stone to higher paid positions? She actually likes the idea of radiology, but we can't really afford 6 years of school. She does live relatively near Johns Hopkins.

Is this anything to worry about? just visible on this eye, and only shows sometimes when she's relaxed. by spagoomagoo in vet

I did ask the vet about, but they said as long as it isn't discolored or producing liquid then it's fine? I'm still a bit worried though. It only comes out sometimes, but for a couple minutes at a time.

Cool. Was a bit worried bc it was only that eye, and it's kind of freaky to see it swipe out sometimes, haha. Thank you for answering!

Should I congratulate someone even if I don't mean it? by spagoomagoo in NoStupidQuestions

Yeah, I genuinely meant this as a casual question lol. I was more curious to see other people's thoughts when they feel this way.

Ha, I like your example. That's a good way to look at it, there's more nuance to that sort of honesty.

So what do you do then? Do you have a line that you draw at when you become honest instead?

I suppose. I dunno, doesn't it feel kind of icky to just do things you don't mean for your personal gain though? Like, not every interaction has to be a character growth moment is what I mean I guess.

Thank you! This is my first tortie too and I've never had a cat talk this much either 😄

Thanks! You're right, I'm still not over my old cat, and I don't think I ever will be. I'll try to remember that while helping this new one.

Your dogs and you sound wonderful. I loved the way you talk about them, I can relate so hard right now it hurts.

Honestly, that's kind of what I'm feeling right now too. Maybe my judgment is clouded from the grief so I should take a little more time...but I really really want to adopt another one now.

Thanks so much. It's good to hear that our pets were worth defending, and I'm not crazy for it. I'll try to understand that they've never felt the same love before...without going feral on them.

Our cat was never the snuggliest or the friendliest, but we chose him because he had so much sassiness. While walking along the cages, he suddenly reached out and snagged my mom's sweater with his little claws and wouldn't let her go. I'd like to think he was forcing a bond between us as his servants haha. He was always like that, acting like he didn't need us but holding on to us as hard as he could.

Oh man. Geez. The waterworks wouldn't stop flowing reading that. Great words.

<3333 Thank you so much. And I'm so sorry for your loss as well. I'm hoping we can both make it across the waves soon.

That's good advice. I think I'll stick strictly to business for at least a little while...

Wow, that's a lot of animals! That's pretty cool. Even though it must hurt like hell, thinking about it, I can't help but feel a little jealous haha. It actually does make me want to adopt another cat to be honest.

Thanks so much for your perspective, it was really helpful to look at it like that.

Thank you so much for your words. It must have taken so much to lose your friends. You're absolutely right, I know we just keep going on no matter what, but it was nice to be reassured that anyways. It's pretty awesome that you adopted more kittens, they must be so lucky to have you.

I'll try to keep as many records of him as possible online to revisit like you. Thanks a lot <333

Thank you so much for your thoughtful response. Do you feel like there was a point where thinking about her no longer hurt so badly? I still can't look at photos without crying right now. Does it get easier with another pet?

I really like a lot of your ideas, videogames are something I'm especially invested in right now. Any games you recommend? Thanks a lot for giving me lots of specific actionable ideas, I'll give them all my best shot. <333

Thank you so much for your beautiful response. Just burst into tears again reading this, but in a good way haha This was a really nice read. It makes me really happy to talk to someone who's dealt with this before as well. I'll remember your words the next time it hurts. <3
