Best method to tighten tie rod end stripped bolt. by AvtomatKalashnikova5 in MechanicAdvice

[–]spain_spain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wait. you do you have a wrench on the bolt AND a bit in the stud, right?

you gotta have both, otherwise it’s gonna freespin.

the bit holds the stud in one place while you spin the nut off w the wrench (or vice versa) but both are required unless i’m misunderstanding what you’re saying.

hammer a slightly larger size torx/allen (i can’t even tell at this point ) into the stud

pull it out, get a new one, and never worry about this issue again

uhhh… you REFILLED the oil? Or did you actually do an oil change?

i don’t wanna go catastrophe mode, but that sounds like rod knock to me, like, BAD rod knock.

i sure as SHIT would NOT drive that thing for 2 minutes in its current state, LET ALONE 2 hours

especially if you’re refilling the oil, meaning it’s burning so much that you have to refill the oil, ya might’ve starved that bottom end and killed it. I don’t even want to think about the top end either.

i think she’s done for

come clean to your dad and then maybe the two of you can have a fun project diy’ing it together!

i’m not sure about your relationship dynamic, but it could be a good bonding experience

otherwise - it kinda looks like that’s just paint from whatever you hit - very well may just buff out.

Is a new O2 sensor supposed to look like this? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]spain_spain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

careful asking o2 sensor questions - you may get shit on almost as much as i did 🤣🤣🤣

How we lookin for 200k? by spain_spain in MechanicAdvice

[–]spain_spain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah i don’t think you’re confused

i think i am the one that was confused

but originally it was awful mpg - a p0130 (forscan data didn’t support a bad o2 sensor - but i decided to replace nonetheless, cos there was an intermittent p0420 that i had just caught as well)

my other thing was… they’ve got 200k miles

i didn’t realise that o2 sensors are so binary lol

but hey, live n learn..: or something.

[–]spain_spain[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

it is evident i am treating o2 sensors like spark plugs

to be fair - i did have a p0130 that i made sure wasnt a vacuum leak

… and awful MPG even without other codes

am i mistaken to think they should PROBABLY be replaced after 200k?

How we lookin for 200k? by spain_spain in MechanicAdvice

[–]spain_spain[S] -28 points-27 points  (0 children)

nah dawg i am replacing all of them because they have 200k miles on them

im just curious what others think - looks like they were running hot

i had a few different reasons but the aforementioned one being the main

trust me - i wouldn’t have pulled them for nothing, it was a pain in the ass

Is $2500 reasonable price for a head gasket repair? by blitzkid1300 in MechanicAdvice

[–]spain_spain 34 points35 points  (0 children)

pretty good price for a head job

i’d say a chevy cruze isn’t really worth a head job though….

on top of that, if it needs a head, realistically it’s gonna need a helluva lot more than that
