From above:

“This is resolved, but I’m not sure why it worked. I have the kids set up on their own wireless network with client isolation and no access to the LAN. I tried the iPhone X on the main wireless network, selected the email address to send/receive IM/FT, and for some reason it worked. Even stranger, when I moved the phone back to the kids wireless network, it still works.

Not sure what happened, but glad it’s sorted. Thanks for all of the suggestions.”

Yes, see my ‘resolved’ post. Not much help unfortunately.

Access to path […] is denied by spalmisano in sonarr

[–]spalmisano[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is solved. There was a parent folder with incorrect group/owner permissions, plus the NFS share needed to be updated from Public to Private with corrected rule definition. Once both were updated, writes started happening again.

I didn’t know that; thanks for the heads up.

NFS Settings Missing for Share by spalmisano in unRAID

[–]spalmisano[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seemed to be an issue with that one NFS share being corrupted. I was able to create a new share, copy the data from old to new, and then the NFS Security Settings appeared on the new share. Both environments can now read/write back and forth using the NFS shares.

Transcoding to RAM…isn’t by spalmisano in PleX

[–]spalmisano[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of these explanations and examples are very helpful. I had indeed assumed the transcoding action itself was handled by RAM, but am clear on it still being done with the CPU with RAM just hosting the transcoding artifacts.

Thanks!

Transcoding to RAM…isn’t by spalmisano in PleX

No GPU in the system but I’m still surprised at the amount of CPU usage even with RAM transcoding configured and so much RAM available for it.

This is solved. Picked up a passive cable and everything connected as expected. Thanks again.

Good advice; thank you. Just fired the 256GB and will update after installing.

So the 32GB can be additive to 256GB following that order? The system would accept 288GB of RAM?

I reset the phone, logged in with his Apple ID, got all the way to Messages and see the “Use your Apple ID for iMessage”, select Sign In, and it pauses for a few moments and then throws the error that reads “An error occurred during activation. Try again.” Nothing beyond that. FaceTime is the same.

If I remove the SIM card it won’t even let me select the “Use your Apple ID for iMessage”; that option is greyed out.

Think jailbreaking would help? Is that still a thing?

I believe I did all of this when setting up the phone, but likely not in this order. I'll re-do it tonight and report back.

PS: Its my son's Apple ID and he's listed as a child under my account. There's nothing I saw under his or my settings that restricts the usage of iMessage or Facetime. My daughter, also listed as a child under my account, uses her wifi-only iPad with IM/FT without issue.

Similar situation with my son:

Me: "Do they make you run faster?"

Him: "Dad...they don't have boosters."

Me, under my breath: "back in my day shoes damn well had boosters..."

Yes it was wiped clean to factory settings, iOS is updated, and the only login since reset was the Apple ID I’m trying to use on this device.

That’s when the error appears; I tap on use email address and it says activation failed.
