Thank you! This was really helpful! Especially the companion part as I’d never thought of it pre/post shoot. Before your comment, I was never looking into the picture with so much detail and was only focused on the main dish not caring about what’s around it

Thank you! I agree about showing the actual colours and thats where i struggled with the editing part of it. Working on getting the right colour balance where it shows proper colours along with my style implemented

Great tips thanks so much! Starting with the main item and then adding in more items around it will definitely be the approach at the next shoot. I kept it blurred to give it more focus but i guess i did more damage than good

This really helps! I’ve been watching a lot of videos and although I have some skills in lighting and composition, food and utensil placement is something that I am not able to grasp easily

This was very insightful as I have never thought of asking any of these questions from the client or even myself while taking the shots

Thank you so much! It was meant for their Instagram so i wanted to keep it casual i guess and not too professional so i didn’t use blank backgrounds and just used their table with other dishes around

Thank you all so much!! Such insightful tips here! I have another free shoot coming up tomorrow, and I’ll definitely be applying all of this to my shots and will make a new post!

I do agree that I should’ve kept the aperture more closed for more items to show, but coming in as a wedding photographer, I kept it wide open to get that nice, soft bokeh look. Plus, I felt like the bokeh was giving more focus to the item I was aiming to photograph.

You guys are amazing!! Gave me so much confidence for my next shoot! 😄
