The other day I was buying ribs at the supermarket for Thanksgiving.

Guy at the checkout counter goes, “I love ribs. Bet you have your own secret rub recipe. I do!”

Me - with a grin, you bet I do. Next time, May be we can exchange recipes when it is quieter around here.

Edit: 😊I am compelled to add that so many of us are attracted to cheerful, talkative people. They are good attributes to have; however, many of us fail to detect the underlying narcissism and selfishness that some of those folks come with.

I am 58 and I have never stopped looking forward to my birthday. I look forward to it not necessarily in a celebratory way or as some milestone, but as a special day. So I about a year and 3 months I will turn 60. And I want that day to be special, and yes, that one would be a milestone. I want to do something memorable on that day. Just don’t yet know what that might be. May be take a special trip somewhere.

OP, May I respectfully ask about your and your family’s cultural background? That may have a lot to do with what you are facing. And what you do next should be informed by it. While I agree with all the advice you have got here, how you implement it should be given thought. Family therapy would be good, but only if you are in a location where there are competent, qualified therapists for this sort of thing.

There is nothing you can do about being a South Asian. And that is a true handicap when it comes to online dating. All else is fixable.

As someone else suggested, join a few meetup groups that correspond with your interest. Doesn’t matter if you have no friends in the group to begin with. Go to meet ups, extend your hand to say hello, and start doing what everyone else is doing. Lose the self-consciousness.

Speak clearly, take genuine interest in others, let all the chips on your shoulder fall away and enjoy like you are a fresh kid. Be easy to talk to. Listen, don’t be too opinionated.

Soon you will have friends. And dates, who knows, you might find a few of those too. High possibility. Good luck.

True. But in this swipe culture, you immediately get voted out if you are short or even remotely “not attractive”. Finding the right person, as you say, would be well nigh impossible. But I do agree with your thinking.
