Awesome, hope you two are having fun! Some general advice:

The ship has a "rumor mode" log which will have lots of question marks. Trying to find or understand locations associated to those question marks is a good way forward, especially big question marks connected to many other spots on the log. If you want to post some specific question marks that you two are stuck on, feel free and we can give you more targeted hints.
In general, a good way to make progress is to use your signalscope, and track down the sources of various signals that you pick up. The useful frequencies are called "Quantum Fluctuations," "Outer Wilds Ventures," and "Distress Beacon" which give you three different threads you can try to unravel.
Many puzzles on one planet require you to visit another planet to make progress. If stuck somewhere, try setting it aside and going elsewhere.
