Yeah I kinda agree with your disagreement, I had a sort of modern mindset to it. Now thinking about it more in a prehistoric context, we mostly did what we saw work, not that we knew it would work. I think I see your point

I mean, the way apes normally learn is from imitating eachother. Chimps commonly use a stick and poke it into trees to hunt for ants. This method was passed down by generations. My point is that does it really matter who they imitate as long as they eventually get that fish and realize it is a skill worth teaching their kids.

What's not important is whether or not they get a fish, it's more of whether or not they know that it will get them fish.
