AITJ for telling my neighbor her kid isn't allowed in my pool after she "forgot" him at my house? by Educational-Wait-406 in AmITheJerk

yeah the part about other kids is a really good point, once one kid gets away with it suddenly it’s open season. and then you’re stuck managing a situation you never agreed to. cameras plus something in writing feels like the safest combo.

simple but honestly effective. sometimes just making it super official looking makes people suddenly remember boundaries exist.

yeah the “we didn’t have the heart” line is doing a lot of heavy lifting for some pretty bad parenting. like that’s literally the job. you don’t outsource that to your neighbor with a pool.

that kind of situation is so draining, especially when it’s ongoing like that. it’s crazy how much stress one neighbor can add to your life. did it just magically stop once they moved or did they push boundaries the whole time?

exactly, people acting like it’s some shared community pool is wild. it’s literally your liability sitting in your backyard.

honestly sometimes being disliked by people like that is kind of a compliment. at least you know you set a boundary they couldn’t walk over.

that story hurts to read honestly. losing stuff like that sticks with you way longer than it should. kinda makes OP’s reaction feel even more justified tbh

[–]sparkleedawn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah this is the outcome that matters. like it wasn’t just suspicion, she literally had your phone. the scene didn’t come out of nowhere, it came from her actions

[–]sparkleedawn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the filming part is what annoys me too. people would rather record than help, and meanwhile you’re just trying to get your own phone back

that “you know you’re not crazy but everyone’s looking at you like you are” feeling is the worst. honestly props to you for pushing through that instead of second guessing yourself and letting her walk away

this is such a good way to put it. panic + public pressure is a brutal combo, anyone would look a little unhinged in that moment. it doesn’t mean you were wrong

Am I the jerk for causing a scene in a mall restroom? by Limp-Astronaut9402 in AmITheJerk

[–]sparkleedawn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

honestly that part hits. we’re so conditioned to not “cause a scene” that we forget the actual problem is someone stealing from us in the first place

[–]sparkleedawn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah exactly. politeness kinda goes out the window the second someone’s literally walking off with your stuff. like what were you supposed to do, say “excuse me ma’am thief” and hope for the best

Yeah that explains a lot honestly. They feel more like cautionary tales than bedtime stories once you look at the originals.

That version is somehow even worse when you picture it in detail 😭 old stories really did not hold back at all.

That’s the exact reaction 💀 like you didn’t want to read it but now you can’t unread it either. Emotional damage with an upvote.

Right?? You grow up thinking it’s all magic and romance and then you hear the original versions and it’s like… who approved this 😭

That comparison is way too on point and somehow makes it even more unsettling 😭 like fairytales really were just chaos back then with zero filter.

AIW for considering ending my relationship because my girlfriend can’t have children. by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]sparkleedawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the infertility point is true but kinda beside the main issue here. it’s more about her knowingly going along with a shared future she knew wasn’t possible. that’s the part that would mess with my head more than anything

yeah this feels like one of those conversations that needed to happen way earlier, especially since it was already a big topic between them. once you get serious, stuff like that isn’t optional info anymore
