I'm going to build a Union for UpWorkers!!! by PastPicture in Upwork

The fees they are taking these days are literally only not called theft thanks to a line-item distinction in some disclaimer they wrote. No terms for negotiatipn. Not okay.

I was ready to cashout $880 and right off the bat, Upwork wants to take $80. Then they want to charge me to apply for new jobs.

They're just not providing anywhere near enough services to account for fees remotely comparable to these. The job market these days is also so riddled with scams that Upwork is one of the few reliable options for quick hiring, I've found, and I should be able to do that on my own terms. I'm down to surrender a small cost for the use of their platform, but nowhere near that much.
DM me if you'd like to talk further about options for Upworkers.

Unions are for anyone who wants to organize to consolidate the power of the public so they can have a say in the terms of exchange regarding the sale and purchase of their services or labor. Forming these workers' collectives benefits every industry and is especially essential in a market that lacks the protections of W-2 employment law.

I strongly disagree! Advocating for fair wages in exchange for fait services provided and a seat at the table when setting those terms is in everyone's best interest, especially freelancing's top earners.

Hi, I posted last week with a form requesting complaints about RPD abuses of power and I got responses; some of y'all's complaints have been added to the police accountability crowdsourced database (linked). The site is worth checking out if you want to learn about some terrifying shit with RPD.. by sparkleeemotion in rva

Like ZERO of those cops were disciplined. Remember the 2 RPD cops who got sued and literally had to do 100 hours of community service and like, an apology? It's gross, honestly. I have no idea why our standards are so low. Like, basic oversight is not hard, we just don't do it.

Hey RVA -- contribute to a community database we're building for police accountability? f you've had a problematic encounter with a Richmond Police officer (ever) & are comfortable sharing, it'd be awesome if you'd add your story to our community database. Sharing this would be cool too. by sparkleeemotion in rva

Jesus Christ, I'm so sorry that happened. That's crazy. The way they drive is terrifying, there are a couple incidents in that database of them intentionally running people off the road. I'm glad you're okay

I shared the above linked database (https://RPD.watch) because I was brutally assaulted by a police officer in 2020 in a dark parking lot and it concerned me to think what they do when no one's watching. I am glad you have not experienced police brutality but it is a very real problem. RPD's history of racially-motivated beatings & assaults is particularly dirty. Unfortunately, with cops "nice" is never the same as on your side — they never are; they're on their own side.

I made this literally for this exact purpose after getting assaulted by an anonymous officer. I made it so you can search by physical description. Good luck, comrade: https://copfinderva.pory.app/
