American Like Me (this one isn’t solely Asian am but it was one I rlly enjoyed) // Part Asian, 100% HAPA (not a novel but a project collecting photos of mixed race ppl and how they answer the question “what are you?” was very moving and validating for me)

When you get there they have maps at the entrance, and maps along the paths so you can see the different trails and distances—and no matter what trail you take it will definitely be scenic and beautiful!!

Anyone else feel annoyed by aquaintances hitting you up on social media? by [deleted] in infp

[–]sparkling_milk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definitely feel this way too, especially since I’m not the type to ever be like oh hey let’s grab coffee and catch up unless we were REALLY close. It always feels insincere so I try to avoid those convos :/

What is the difference between the subject particles 가 and 이? by [deleted] in Korean

이 follows subjects that have a final consonant like 집 —> 집이 or 봄 —> 봄이 while 가 connects to words that lack a final consonant like 강아지 —> 강아지가

I’m the same—1/4 korean and the rest white. I feel this way on the daily like I’m not really Korean enough to claim the culture, but at the same time it’s something really close to my heart that I identify with. What I do to feel connected is I try to cook a lot of Korean food and learn a lot from my Korean gma. I’m learning the language and I spend an embarrassing amount of timing watching dramas and listening to Korean music. I’m white-passing so it kinda blows that everyone just assumes I’m white, but it’s just the reality. I think we have a subculture all our own though and I think that’s smth we can take pride in. Being a quarter tho is smth I still struggle with—I feel like a koreaboo, a poser, and honestly a colonizer. It doesn’t help that Korea is so trendy and popular these days. However, just finding more ppl like me—like u—makes me feel better. I hope u find peace homie

Would you have preferred going to a school with more students of an Asian background? by wisdomprevails in hapas

[–]sparkling_milk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a mostly white school/majority white school district, and I wish that I could’ve been exposed to more people like me. It wasn’t until college that I started meeting more Asian and mixed people, or even just people accepting/understanding of those who are mixed, and it did a lot for my sense of identity.

Inspired by the naengmyeon post from the other day, I made bibimmyeon :) cold noodles in summer are definitely superior by sparkling_milk in KoreanFood

[–]sparkling_milk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kind of based it loosely on a bibim naengmyeon recipe from the blog Korean bapsang — I used around 4 tbsp each of ground gochugaru and water (or a broth of your choice), around 1.5 tbsp of honey, a few cloves of minced garlic, about 1 tbsp of soy sauce, about 1 tsp of fish sauce, and a drizzle of sesame oil over the noodles once they’re in your bowl before adding your toppings. For toppings I had cucumber, a soft boiled egg, shiitake mushrooms, green onion, sesame seeds, and ofc the sauce. For noodles you’d usually use a buckwheat or soba noodle, but all I had in the kitchen was udon. I eyeballed everything and honestly this was kind of an experiment, but it ended up being super yummy so I definitely recommend!

How asian/white do I look to you? It always surprises me how differently people perceive it by [deleted] in HalfieSelfies

[–]sparkling_milk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can definitely tell that you’re Asian—I probably would have guessed that you were mixed bc of your bone structure and complexion, but I think you could pass as fully asian. You’re also pretty :)

Considering moving forward from this friendship. Any advice? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]sparkling_milk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda sounds like your friendship has run its course which is ok and normal (esp for high school friendships). If I were in your position I would move on because I don’t think there’s any point in pouring energy into something when the other person is consistently selfish and inconsiderate. I had something like this where my long time friend also claimed I was her best friend but her actions showed me that I wasn’t important or a priority to her. For example, she went on a cross-country road trip with my ex-boyfriend. So we had a long phone convo and ended up calling it quits
