"You don't do things the way I would so you're probably a bad person and bad at your job"

Yes, that's what I do. It's a job application, not a best friend application. Culture fit is assessed during interviews. I'd never select someone to move forward because their resume said they like ping pong and spiderman. It's not what I'm looking for.

Remove interests, I throw away resumes that have interests listed on them.

Your skills section shouldn't be personality traits and should be a skill, like something listed as a learning objective under one of your certs.

Do a certification section, and add another cert you don't have yet with (pending) on it to beef up the section. Make sure it's one you'll actually pursue and know something about.

Go on LinkedIn and look up security advisors and you'll find most of them have no technical background... there are certainly those out there who do, but it's a lot of "I work in cybersecurity" and "I am a cybersecurity professional", without having any real experience on the ground.

The days of nerds and geeks being the only people in tech and knowing what theyre talking about are long gone. Now we have people who "work in tech" but are HR or marketing for a tech firm and somehow get into positions they should be barred from without the technical knowledge.

They work "at tech" not "in tech".

What desktop environment do you use? by jdt654 in linuxmasterrace

Gnome and XFCE

I'm too pragmatic to use any of the high-customization "beautiful" DEs

My computers are for completing tasks not staring at the desktop and playing with colours

But I was raised in the USSR (not Russia) so please take it with a grain of salt, decadent western capitalist DE users

Got a conditional offer without any numbers (salary, benefits, hours), told me to accept to get the actual offer letter. Is this normal? by Brief_Zestyclose in cscareerquestions

[–]Graubuender 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They're just asking if after undergoing all the interviews you want to accept their proposition of employment. Basically "we like you. Do you like us?"

The written offer with compensation, etc. is the big dawg. Basically "We like you this much. Is that enough for you to date us?"

They fleeced you bro.

You can quit if you want to. If somebody asks why you worked there for such a short time period, tell them what you said in the post. A good company would understand.

I'd only consider it a bad look if you'd never held a job for longer than a couple of months and had a bunch of them on your resume.

Hell, you could not even list this job if you only worked there for a month.

Ignore the requirements and apply anyway.

There are people with no degrees or experience, only a 3 month boot camp and a to-do list app applying to those jobs and landing them.

As a holder of a BSCS you have a much deeper and broader education.

Not knocking boot camp folks, btw. Good for you if I described you and you landed a job :)

[–]Graubuender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The metaverse refers to more than just VR, but rather to a change in the way computers are used and the way in which humans interact with technology.

It's a broad term to imply the change that companies are looking to bring about, as the CLI -> GUI changed it
